POTUS 46: What do you want/expect/hope for/fear?

Moments ago Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the USA, despite desperate, violent attempts by his now-predecessor to stop this happening. Trump will unlikely fade away; he'll be plotting away, seething in the cauldron of Mar-a-Lago, scheming to wreak his revenge.

But **** him. He's yesterday's news, something that will anger him more than anything else, and a fitting end.

Looking ahead, what do you hope to see for the new administration, or, conversely, what fears have you for the future?

OccultHawk 01-20-2021 10:46 AM

I hope to see a real safety net for everyone. Real limits put on the brutality of capitalism. And a very serious environmental policy.

ando here 01-20-2021 11:17 AM

A proper national response to the COVID-19 epidemic, first and foremost. I don’t think Pres Biden is the man to initiate a real revamping of the infrastructure in the U.S. (which is desperately needed, imo) but something like a new New Deal would be something around which Americans could coalesce on a real level - not just some notion like the “angels of our better nature” after Trump.

Plankton 01-20-2021 11:46 AM

Less separatism and more environmentalism.

I just don’t think they can continue to just give the vaccine to the states and the states to the counties without supervision. The federal government needs to provide resources, strategies to get it out, and allow for more flexibility than they’re used to giving but with immediate oversight. Obviously, we need people who are competent and trustworthy, two qualities that have been completely stripped from the federal government over the last four years. Fortunately, I think Biden is going to have a crack team starting right ****ing now. This Trump bull**** is over. Praise God!

I'm still waiting for Trump to be yesterday's news tbh. Tired of him being the center of attention.

Not expecting much from Biden. I guess we'll see.

Along these lines I don’t think the senate should waste time ****ing around with impeachment bull****. There’s a two year window with a legislative majority. They need to focus on real **** that actually helps people.

Let the states go after Trump. A Georgia state pen is worse than any federal **** anyway.

Exo 01-20-2021 11:54 AM

1. Contain Covid.
2. Police reform.
3. Tax the rich and stabilize this economy.

In that order

It’s Biden with the house and senate though. Watch me get my hopes up and then call for his head but right now I’m back in the stupid cycle of actually having hope.

Want to get the white grievance contingency to chill? Give them free dental.

Church to all of this. Would be surprised if any of it actually properly happened, but I'm optimistic that things will at least get somewhat better, especially regarding covid measures

jwb 01-20-2021 12:00 PM

I'm more than willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Through what kind of measures? Keep in mind that police forces are generally state and local.

I want him to focus and work on police reform with the states.

Better training, less funding for tactical vehicles that sit in a parking lot for decades not doing anything, and generally better accountability with the brass. Less corruption.

Trollheart 01-20-2021 12:53 PM

1. Reunite kids with parents
2. Get on top of Covid insofar as possible; mandate masks and refuse entry to hospital for those who get sick and don't wear them. **** those arseholes.
3. Back into Paris Accords
4. Tackle racial equality
5. Cure cancer
6. Foster world peace
7. Make contact with alien intelligence
8. Prove the existence, or non-existence, of God
9. Reunite Pink Floyd

Note: those last five can wait till his second term

Stacking the Supreme Court with judges who actually respect the the fourth amendment would help. And tbh the second amendment as well. You shouldn’t just be able to shoot someone for having a weapon in a country where the weapon is legal. With today’s technology there’s really very little reason for the cop and the perp to interact at all on a basic traffic stop. The whole roll down your window bull**** should be a 4th amendment violation right there.

Tickets should be on a sliding scale based on ability to pay.

What's the fourth amendment? Enlighten a thick Irishman. And me.

If he can actually get through a $15 minimum wage I'm at least willing to not hate him.

That’s gonna be hard - no **** bag Republican-light dems voting no.

Totally totally 100% crucial too.

The fulcrum of that amendment is the word "Unreasonable". It can be very subjective.

That’s why (((we))) need to stack the court.

The Batlord 01-20-2021 01:57 PM

I don't see Biden stacking the court with anyone who supports anything good besides abortion.

Sound great. Lets see if this works:

(defun c:Stack ();;;;;Define the function "Stack"
(if (= we you);;;;;;;;If "we" is equal to "you"
(setq Stack OH);;;;;;Then set the variable "Stack" to "OH"
);;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;Close out if statement
);;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;Close out defun statement

He’s not going to stack the court anyway I don’t figure.

Just think he should.

Well don’t shoot the messenger.

Police departments aren’t like school districts where the federal government can just start making rules they’re going to follow. They’re not under federal jurisdiction unless their policies are challenged through legal channels.

I get the idea of withholding federal funding or subsidies as a kind of extortion to get the wanted results but that’s just going to end up in an angry cluster**** and inefficient bureaucratic oversight.

I just thought you were speaking my 2nd language with all the parenthesis, also I have no clue as to how to fix that. I'll leave that up to you. That's all that meant. No shooting. Be safe. Much love. Peace.

I didn’t get shot once during the entire Trump administration. Now you won’t shoot me. Biden sucks.

The triple parentheses is online fascist code for Jews. Don't know why Hawk was using it.

Really? Btw, I always thought triple parentheses around someone's name meant cyber-"hugging" them. I've actually done that on here occasionally. Hope I haven't offended anyone.
