In terms of politics. This isn't really a great way to start an already exceedingly mediocre presidency

Then he'd be criticized by Fox for thwarting Trump's withdrawal plan and by everyone else for extending the war. I bet ending the occupation will get more positive recognition in the long run than the warhawk media blowback.

And either way the fact that he tried to act like this **** wasn't obviously gonna lead to the Taliban taking over is quite obviously NOT a good look. Looks incompetent and dishonest

And tbh i think the lack of action wouldn't have nearly the same media traction as us all just watching afghanistan fall back in to the arms of the Taliban in real time. It might have been a right wing talking point but very much doubt it would've dominated even a single news cycle.

I'm not saying this is what will sink him... Haven't even been following politics closely.. but yeah this doesn't feel like a high point for him to say the least... Especially as a brand new president

it could definitely be more Democratic even by basic changes like using the poplar vote instead of the EC. Without even getting anywhere near something approaching direct democracy there are obvious ways in which our system could be improved
