Passive aggression is fun

It's a political reality that you have to convince people to agree with you, that don't necessarily understand you. I don't argue that, say, Mattias Eklundh is great, by throwing a ton of music theory at them they have no interest in. I convince them by showing them parts of his music that they're more likely to understand and appreciate on some level.

On the same token, if 6 billion of 7 billion people are horrible people, I don't see why you'd echo chamber yourself with the 1 billion and imagine that's going to cause a change in the 6 billion's behaviour. What will change the 6 billion, is someone talking to them on their level and getting them to change their beliefs in a way they're capable of doing. Even if its small steps at a time.

What absolutely won't work is showing up at the local 6 billion's boozer armed with pamflets and an attitude problem.

And of course this is where we immediately get into the part of the argument I mentioned before, where someone doesn't necessarily understand your position, but you still enter into a debate with them where you do nothing but belittle them and their lack of knowledge. In so doing, convincing nobody of anything, and only solidifying that person's opposition of your position.

No, because I stated multiple times before, I'm onboard with your ideas. I think Batlord is wrong to reject them. This was already my evident position. I posted what I did in order to make clear that I won't back him up on this. But as much as I won't do that, I also won't make the claim to perfectly understand fluid gender identity to a degree sufficient to explain it to him.

Therefore the floor is yours, madam.

I never said I'm not trying to change anyone's mind - it's more that I'm not willing to argue with people who remain willfully ignorant on any given subject. Furthermore, I refuse to spend my time educating someone on an issue they don't know anything about in order to argue with them.. it's the age of information and I think it's the duty of individuals at large (circumstantial, of course) to utilize the resources available to them.

I'm talking day-to-day arguments here, btw, I exert a minimal amount of energy arguing ethics and lgbtq+ issues with your average forum-goer, I save that for my career in academia. However, like I said, I do revel in calling people out for being *******s.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm not saying that agenderism, aromanticism, etc don't exist. I'm saying that I think your desire to be the most interesting person in the room has caused you to think that you're all of these things, and yes I do think you sincerely believe at least some of it. Seriously though, my position is simple:

gender is fluid, sentient beings have inalienable rights, what you learned in Sunday school or at the dinner table from your folks is not the end-all be-all - being alive is hard for everyone, don't make it harder for others, help when you can, stand up for others, don't stifle anyone, every voice deserves to be heard.

Good position. I have difficulty reconciling your stated attitude with parts of it though. I would consider standing up for others and helping when you can to be something that would result in political motivation and a drive to promote good causes actively in those places where they're both relevant and also likely to be addressed rather than dismissed. Your earlier position seems to be a responsive one rather than a proactive one, and I imagine that can only come about one of two ways:

1 - As a fallible human being, you don't have the spare energy and capability to persistently promote your good cause, and have resorted to channeling that energy into reflexive discussions about specific injustices. This is a perfectly good reason, since after all, nobody can support every good cause at the same time - I just have problems with the way you go about it, as discussed.

2 - You're actually hyper politically active outside of this forum and for some reason, presumably some semblance of privacy, you choose not to share it with us.

BTW, just to let you know, despite what I said about thinking you're full of **** I have no intention of calling you out every time you make claims on the board. I might be wrong and I have no desire to take you to task over it. I'm perfectly happy to leave it at this.

Both are accurate to some degree. I've shared a lot of my experiences with the members I'm close to on this forum. The real reason I keep it to real life though is that I'm completely passionate and enthusiastic about these issues and discussing them at length on this forum tends to make me just see red and it often results in an infraction. We're all learning.

I don't think you really have cottoned onto the whole not giving a **** what anyone thinks about me thing yet. Feel free if it makes you feel better about yourself but it makes no difference to me except to make me side eye the **** out of you
