I really can't fathom how people can just ignore when we get members that are blatantly or obviously racist or sexist, and defend them on the basis that they're "characters".

I'm not saying people should be ostracized for not being perfect people with perfect opinions, but when youre dealing with sexism and racism or other similar things, I really think that person needs to be something special to get people to overlook it.

216, HHBH, aren't that. Dirty wasn't that either but people threw out the same defense, same for Scotty The Rebel.

Maybe I just feel like people should place a slightly higher premium on not being a dick.

as for what I really think about someone - I'd like to suggest that almost nobody in that sexism thread 216 bumped, has any ****ing idea what they're talking about and there's a whole ****ing ton of unintentional sexism there that's making me reconsider who is and who isn't an utter pillock on MB.

I don't really interact on a personal level with enough of the members here to be able to gauge how much I like people or what I feel about them. And, of the few people that I have actually interacted with, two of them are gone for various reasons (Hermione and...Howard...).

Trollheart is a genuinely nice guy and a great member. Then there's the likes of 216 that are just there to make me laugh. I don't think I've ever even seen him talking about music :P

I guess I just don't care most of the time. If I knew him in real life I'd probably like him less, but on the net it's easier to compartmentalize parts of a person's personality that you don't like. So unless he's actually being racist I'm kind of indifferent. Maybe I'm a bad person, but being a good person is for losers anyway.

guitar bizarre - i used to make fun of him for living his parents attic which his mom decorated in a neo-psychedelic scheme, which has led to a bit of an irrational grudge on his part. I could fart roses and he'd complain about my being insensitive to those who suffer from allergies.

ok so paul smeenus - all i did was compliment dudes beard and looks and tho in the past he has seemed angry wtih me but i never got hostile with him or ever really talked to him much (he thinks im homophobe among other things), but tonight i made a comment in plug that was no way offensive and dude just went berzerk. got realrude towards me all the while i never responded back, just so shocking t me i thouht he was docile. he has vowed to never speak to me again but i lost a lot of respect for this dude today
