I'm actually childhood friends with The Horrorist and I asked him this question in the past hour through Facebook. He asked me what songs of his I liked the most, I told him Wire to the Ear, Body to Body, and The Virus...then he goes in no uncertain terms: 170.
I'll take his word for it since he's been jamming with synthesizers and sequencers since I met him back in 1986 when he would hang out w/ my older brother.

right around 700 is where all notes start to blend into one and i pass out.

Trance is generally around 138-145, anything above 180 would be soul destroying really!

Minimal is usually between 124-134, detroit between 132-142, hard techno around 140-150 (extreme!).

I generally produce in the 125-135 range, deep dubby techno influenced by minimal sounds!

Berlin all the way!
