LOOOOVE Dubstep! Rusko, Caspa, Benga and Kromestar to name a few I like. I got introduced to dubstep maybe 3 months ago and loving it since. If anyone knows of others that are good please by all means mention them. I had a huge stint of about 9 months where all I listened too was hardstyle and now finding myself solidly into dubstep.

ployd 11-27-2008 04:23 PM

Thegoldlaw, peep the list I posted on page 8

thegoldlaw 11-27-2008 04:40 PM

Am I missing something, most of the people you mention were more metal then anything else. Maybe there is bands with the same name.. but if not they seemed metal orientated.

See what you think of this. Essential dubstep:

Or this:

This is the Dubstep I'm into.

thegoldlaw 11-27-2008 05:04 PM

The top one says Drum and Bass and the bottom one I would think of minimal/grime

Yeah but it is quite obviously NOT Drum and Bass as only a cursory listen would show and Kode 9 is dubstep but then we have a different sound in the U.K.

thegoldlaw 11-27-2008 05:19 PM

Hrmm If i had 15 post i'd link to songs that i think are dubstep. So i will make pointless post like this until i reach that level.

Kode 9 for me seems meh for dubstep.. alot of their stuff doesnt sound like what I believe is dubstep

thegoldlaw 11-28-2008 04:19 AM

I dunno jackhammer, I got talking to a couple of friends and they both said they didnt think the above links you had were what they considered dubstep.

The below is what i consider dubstep:

Is this American or British? That for me is far too dancey to be considered dubstep but once again-we have our definitive Dubstep sound but I'm not going to post a bunch more vid's to convince you. In the U.K they are considered Dubstep and considering the first vid is Benga who you quoted as liking seems a little odd to be then dismissing it. I was only offering recommendations and if they don't fit in with your ideal with what is dubstep then no worries.

thegoldlaw 11-28-2008 01:46 PM

haha American + dubstep.. I don't think it exist.. I'll be honest I don't think any electronical exist in america. The above is Rusko and I just sent it because the actural song is TERRIBLE. Just proves you can make a junk song sound good with a little dubstep.

You must be joking. That must be the most ridiculous statement ever

:p:

thegoldlaw 11-28-2008 04:56 PM

It was sarcasm, but there really isnt alot of well know people coming out of america. First link i saw on top djs:
1 TIESTO
2 ARMIN VAN BUUREN
3 PAUL VAN DYK
4 ATB
5 CARL COX
6 SASHA
7 FERRY CORSTEN
8 DAVID GUETTA
9 DEEP DISH
10 JOHN DIGWEED

Only 1 of those is american. I live on the east coast and I've tryied hard to find established people in electronical and I have yet to find any. When i head out to the west coast (Vegas and Denver) its alot easier to find good music. But compared to europe america is almost nonexistant in established people. I have friends from england, german, spain and norway and they all tell me about every day how their is something going down in terms of electronical.

And the east coast isnt devoid of music, its just mostly rap music. While in boston every day I was able to go to a rap concert and only once in 3 years could I find something electronic. Same can be said for New York, what little time i spent there

ployd 11-28-2008 05:32 PM

I'm not really into house music which that "top DJ" list is pretty much contrived of but there are plenty of solid DnB producers and DJ's doin it large in America. Atlanta by itself has a bunch of people. As for parties. We have pretty good parties going down on the regular. Bailey from 1xtra was here this week. Next month we have Adam F,Hive,Phantom 45,and DB. All in one show. As for producers from ATL check out Mayhem,Evol Intent, Abel Gein and Tester. All of which are internationally known.
I didnt catch the sarcasm so thats why I replied the way I did.

P.S. Peep out TrillBass for some nasty dubstep biz. Big tingz in the lineup for this crew.

PAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. *sigh*

sorry mate but dubstep was invented in Croydon, London.

The sound has branched out into many different interpretations since it's inception (the Bristol scene being a prevalent cerebral trendsetter), and that includes your crass Americanizations unfortunately. (Not that North America doesn't have it's good producers)

thegoldlaw 11-29-2008 01:44 AM

Well First off Rusko = london so I dont know how this differs much from croydon london. And as much as that song it was the link I had playing @ the time. Friend sent me the link and i thought it was fairly funny. If i knew how to put videos on here I would. The only reason that one is up is because a mod fixed the code to make it work. Just putting in the embed code doesnt work.

For me obsessive amounts of wobble seperates dubstep from its bigger brother UKG or grime which uses marginal wobbles. And since benga seems to be someone we can agree with that is "dubstep" the following songs by him i consider dubstep:

Benga - 26 Basslines (especially)
Benga - Crunked Up
Benga - Evolution

I could name alot more but those are the ones I found in 2 seconds that you too could easily find given you dont already have them.

yeah. agree with you on the wobble there. basically it all falls under the glorious umbrella of 140-odd (?)bpm bassy 2-step music. The 'function' dubstep serves depends entirely on the producer whether it's skankers or holed-up in your bedroom with an L-skin thinking music. I'm really out of touch with dubstep these days but I know that every time I check in it has spread and evolved. Like there are some producers blurring the lines between step and breakcore right now, it's all gone mental. And re the drum & bass comment further up, d&b heads all seem to be mad on dubstep, it's the same principle. Where I used to live they were getting dubstep DJ's in to play out to the coke crew, it was pretty cool. Also somebody help me with Underwater Dancehall by Pinch before I shoot myself or resort to buying it. frnngh

thegoldlaw 11-29-2008 11:57 AM

That is one thing I've def noticed. DnB and dubstep seem to have a simuliar feel to it. I'm acturally fairly new to dubstep myself, maybe 3-4 months deep into it. I had been listening to hardstyle and wanted a different sound. So beyond dubstep what other sub-genres you feeling in electronica?

ployd 11-29-2008 03:53 PM

Whats this hardstyle biz you keep mentioning?

thegoldlaw 11-29-2008 04:12 PM

Headhunterz and Noisecontroller are the 2 i liked in hardstyle. For me its a slower/harder version of gabber with alot more progression.

ployd 11-29-2008 04:18 PM

ahhh. Ive heard that type of music @ some of the "raves" I've played at. Not really my thing.

Back on the subject of Dubstep.... Peep out Eskmo when you get a chance. Good ish.

thegoldlaw 11-29-2008 04:47 PM

I gave 6 of Eskmo's songs a listen. Overall impressions was the music wasnt bad just lacking of energy

ployd 11-29-2008 04:52 PM

yes it could use a little filler. If you have proper bass then it adds alot due to the amount of sub bass he uses

thegoldlaw 11-29-2008 09:01 PM

I don't know if its my current settings or its this song. but wow.. BASS

YouTube - Stenchman - The Number One

ployd 11-30-2008 01:01 AM

YouTube - Joker - Snake Eater

Hawtness

thegoldlaw 11-30-2008 01:28 AM

I was acturally listening to that song earlier. The lyrics for me made it meh.. i wish it was just the beat.

Friday 11-30-2008 04:07 AM

Apparently, dubstep is the soundtrack to Ketamin.

Chase & Status' 'Eastern Jam' seems to be getting alot of play recently. I enjoy it, even if I think the funky house drums are a little pointless.

ployd 11-30-2008 04:27 PM

wow. LOL . It just goes to show that people have very different tastes and opinions. I love the vocals in Snake Eater and the Funky drums are my favorite part of Eastern Jam. lulz

thegoldlaw 11-30-2008 08:54 PM

Quick off question how do people do avatars that are above 20kb and above 80x80 ?

Seltzer 11-30-2008 09:20 PM

Just head over here, post the one you want and we'll do it.

thegoldlaw 11-30-2008 09:53 PM

Thanks Greatly appriciated

thegoldlaw 12-02-2008 12:01 AM

This video visually is AMAZING. Warn you the first 10 seconds are REALLY hight pitch so you may want to turn your volume really low until you feel comfortable with it.

YouTube - Skream - Superfly

ployd 12-04-2008 11:48 PM

Supa DUpa FLY!

Have you peeped out Skream and Plasticians rmx of The Black Ghosts "Someway Through This"

Ill tune right thar ;)

thegoldlaw 12-05-2008 04:32 PM

Anyone who played nes growing up and like dubstep I think will enjoy this YouTube - FoNoicH - 8-bit Adventure (DubStep). The tone of the music changes as the video changes which I really like.

I honestly felt this was in the wrong forum. Like its dubstep but it sounded more like a rap instrumental. As the song progresses the voices with the beat don't really work for me.

Overall I love most of skreams and plastician's work.. just not really feeling this.

ployd 12-05-2008 06:50 PM

pretty cool tune

thegoldlaw 01-04-2009 09:27 PM

This song is soo wild.. sounds like a polished IDM track.. in yet its dubstep

Steppas' Delight: Dubstep Present to Future offers a pretty good retrospective of Dubstep so far.

jackhammer 01-13-2009 08:57 AM

What's new in the Dubstep scene then? I fancy some new big tunes.
