Default The Field

The Field released an album last year called From Here We Go Sublime. It was quite the darling among internet music critics. I listened to it a few times myself, and couldn't find anything particularly great about it. I found it a pretty nondescript record, really. What did others think? And what do people think generally of The Field's work?

Never heard of it! So it's not really worth checking out?

Well, enough people seemed to think it was a Godsend. So it's probably worth checking out at least and hearing once. I mean, it's not crap. It's a decent sort of record. I just don't, with my level of knowledge, understand why it's any better than anything else of the same sort.

I cant decide if it's annoying or brilliant. I will come back later with a more detailed analysis. I cannot see many on here getting into them though. Maybe Cardboard?

Like what?

I loved it, but then I was a pretty big fan of his previous EPs before From Here... was released. I also love Gas, Ulrich Schnauss, and that style of ambient music, so that + Techno is pretty much heaven for me.

It was a tad overrated by critics, but then sites like Pitchfork don't really cover EDM all that well, so when they find a better than average record they always hype the **** out of it.

Thats what he was saying. He admits his knowlege of the genre is limited. Same as I. What I heard was hypnotic, however after 20 minutes I had had enough!

Wow.... From Here We Go Sublime is really really great. Especially after hearing a bunch of this annoying "mickey-mouse voice" techno that my friend listens to. God I hate that shit

I love Schnauss too. Have you heard Stafraenn Hakon's album Gummi. Excellent stuff and similar to Schnauss.

Schnauss is way better than The Field. I still don't understand why FHWGS was so acclaimed and nobody has been able to explain it.

The Field mixes easily accessibly Kompakt-style Techno with not-quite-Trance-y ambient music, and given the way dance music has made a bit of a comeback in indie circles, it isn't really surprising that The Field would get so much love. Besides, Schnauss is pretty critically acclaimed himself.

I heard Stafraenn Hakon's album a while back, but I guess I didn't think that much of it because I never really listened to him again.

EDIT: Also I should point out that Trance has been making a comeback in general recently. All this "rave revival" stuff recalling the early 90s Franfkurt scene and labels like Kompakt, Dial, etc. jumping on the Neo-Trance bandwagon it also kind of explains why The Field, Gui Boratto, etc. got really popular recently.
