Default Venetian Snares

In the latest of PMO's 'talk about artists he's getting into and should have a threads on MB' series of threads we have Venetian Snares.
VS is the name for the DJ Aaron Funk, who deals in fiercly experimental and often pretty loud electro. Listening to it it's clear this guy has no regard for time signatures or conservative song structures. If you like your disconnected Aphex Twin-style beats then definitely give him a go.
A quick rundown of the albums i've got...

Songs About My Cats
Not amazing i must admit, i read that it takes many listens for the apparant melodies that are there to be noticable, i don't think i'm there yet.

Winnipeg Is a Frozen Shithole
My favourite at the moment, got it simply because my friend told me some of the song names. Song is of course the wrong word here. This is powerful breakcore at its best, and in a far more concise package than the other albums. The distorted bass and drum patterns are just insane, and there's some brilliant sampling (the intro for 'Winnipeg is a Dogshit Dildo' must be one of my favourites).

Rossz Csillag Alatt Született
At some points, while chilling a lot of the time, this album can actually be quite beautiful. The string sampling is inspired, where on the first track it can be used to jump and shock the listener later on it's used as a substitute for ambient synths. I could get to like this a lot.

This isn't actually anything like what i've heard yet but the video is cool.

I've listened to the Venetian Snares a bit, i've been meaning to listen to more, only owning the Chocolate Wheelchair Album, but i've just been super busy. I'll make sure to give Winnipeg Is a Frozen ****hole a listen soon.

His new album (Detrimentalist) is really good. I had the chance to see him recently with Otto Von Schirach, but decided not to at the last minute. He's supposed to be crazy live, so I'm kind of disappointed I didn't go.

I was reading online and it didn't seem to get brilliant reviews from things like Allmusic, so you might be better off with Rossz Csillag Alatt Született, which is different but just as good really.

I have heard the name many times but never dipped my toe. Sounds like my sort of thing. I may have to check him out.

Honestly, Allmusic reviews are pretty hit or miss. When they get reviews right they're pretty spot on, but I've seen them give lots of good albums average or even bad reviews. I used to trust their reviews when I first started using the site, but now I just sort of take their ratings with a grain of salt.

Well i never take mag or website reviews as the defining opinion on an album, but generally i usually find myself agreeing with Allmusic, although their write-ups can be a bit sparse.

I liked Rossz Csillag Alatt Született, but for the most part it's too frantic to be something I could really get into.
