Dance and Rave music!!!
 

Lets hear your favorite dance music! We all have a few songs that we simply can't listen to while sitting still. A strong beat will get us on our feet! Any genre. I know almost every techno song I've ever heard makes me want to rave!

Also, I'm captian of my dance team and I need music (of varying tempos) for our practices, any ideas will be appreciated! (oh, and its with the school, so explicite language should be kept to a minimum)

Any dance music explicitly labeled dance music is meant for writhing in an E and roofy induced glow light coma that makes it easier for statutory rape to take place...but is terrible as danceable music.

Actually this thread is perfect. I gave up listening to anything that sounded like techno when I got clean, which is a shame because they're good. Currently trying to track down where it all came from, I'll bet there's some huge back story to rave music no one knows. Like Trance, for instance, is really just progressive psychedelic electronica. I think Armin Can Burren (famous trance artists) was popular at raves at one point, I think 2003. Happy Hardcore (fast cheesy-voiced techno) was big at one point too.

When I left off everyone was listening to some weird.. I don't even know what to call it. It wasn't remotely like psychedelic music, it's really like the next stage of psychedelia using electronic mindfucks popping out of what could only be described as sick electronic dance riffs and heavy bass beats. Nothing deep to these songs but a culture of lost drug addict teens tripping balls and dancing in what could possibly be the most amazing feeling experience humans have created so far. Also there is a notable influence of rock strung through the beats ever since Justice debuted in 2007. My question is where did this genre come from and where will it go?

Crookers were the pioneers I think, they start four years before Justice and heavily influenced the Bloody Beetroots I'm guessing as they sound a lot alike.

In comparison to past movements this is a dull one. The music is good but aligns with the pop culture of today. Were in a new age of pop and dance people. It came in the 50's, came back in the 80's, and then in the 2000's with Britney Spears. Girls must grow-up with drunk daddy's missing their dance recital and turn to Britney... of course looking at the path she went down it's no wonder poor Susie here ended up popping pills in the line at H.A.R.D getting excited as her trippiest dance song comes on.

I do think it's a movement society is taking and not some fad, as it'll most likely last more then ten years before branching into something else. It's just a pointless one. The only revolution we see here is the mass of spiritually malfunctioned people, together as one, blocking out the stuff they can't face with filler.

I enjoyed reading that Schizo, however, I think that electronic music is not all about drugs. I think its a lot about having fun too. Which a lot of people have seem to have forgotten how how to do. That's why I like electronic music. It's not about having an advance structure or trying to change the world with their music. Its about letting these kids unwind and everyone having a good time. Nothing wrong with that. They don't preach and they don't take preaching. They just rock out.

I personally think it is preaching. Everything today is preaching if you look; MTV and Cosmo are preaching what woman should be, 2pac and Biggie smalls are preaching what blacks should be, the news preaches the opinions whoever's on top, Republicans preach Christianity, Mental Hospitals preach you're sick, Paxel preaches there's a pill for every sad day, Businesses preach that they care about you when they only care about money, and clearly The Bloody Beetroots and Steve Aoki are preaching what their fans should look like, bust most importantly, that no matter what you look like- drugs are amazing feeling.

Society has always been like this in my opinion, woman were burned in the witch trials and the church used to have more power then the king of England. Today we have Brittney Spears and religious influenced political parties. So that's my reasoning for disagreeing, because to me it seems that the people running the raves (which are no longer under ground) want just as much money as any business and are totally willing to help put out a video glorifying the shit out of drugs and telling any dysfunctional drug addict teen what they should look like, how many pills to pop, and when to show-up.

Personally I'm a strong believer that nobody is a victim, ever. At the core of things we always have the power to decide, and if any person takes responsibility for their own actions that they then have the exact answer of what to change for personal empowerment. Even if they are only 10% of the problem, they need to use that 10%. But, none-the-less, I think it is also important to at least recognize the ones influencing and the oppressors- as to support social empowerment.

Also I think it is important to note I have no inherent problem with this stuff. Some anger, yeah, but people are where they are, and society is where it is. That's perfectly fine. All I'm really saying here is that I disagree that "They don't preach and they don't take preaching." and also that I think it's important for those who think there is negative influence to state so. I love the sound of electronica music, honestly.

You've really made a point. I guess there is a lot of messaging I've never noticed in the rave scene. That was one crazy party. I guess wherever you go there will always be the top dog just in it for the money and doing what they can to keep people with them. I think that the nobody is a victim thing is very true because I've grown up with a bunch of potheads but I never became one. Why? Because I make my own choices, the enviroment I live in doesn't mean I can't come out different.

Definitely true, and great to hear your life never revolved around drugs. Trust me I know how hard it can be just trying to get to the point where you are able to separate out what's you and what's your parents, and from there it's even harder struggling to figure out what life is and who you are.

It sucks that sometimes we have to do this on our own, considering we have a role in some family dysfunction, breaking that role while being nearly trapped, etc, etc... really I could write up a fucking book on it I have so much to say. =/ It's not really about rave stuff, though, so we should probably stop the conversation here. PM if you want though, for sure.

i agree that in some places that drugs are a huge part of a rave, they are here aswell, but the event holders make it very hard to get drugs in, i personally dont take drugs at them but i know from attending raves that snifferdogs and searches take place before you get in.. theres also millions of amnesity bins on the way in so that if you were planning on taking in you can dispose of it without being arrested! & if you get caught trying to go into the event you will be strip searched, not allowed in & arrested possibly! :laughing: so i wouldnt even chance my arm!

but yeah i know what you mean by its a big part of the rave scene but some people dont take them :D like me :)

"New Age Girl" by Deadeye Dick. I first heard this song while working in the lab in the 1990's and always stopped to dance around to it. While the song is a little annoying (describing a woman in a sexual way...ho hum, old theme), I suppose I am biased toward the song because it is about a vegetarian in Iowa! Also, the video is amusing, because we run around a lot with pumpkins on our heads in Iowa (actually, we don't, but it would be funny if we did).

As an aside, I find it interesting that Trance music, which many people seem to like to dance to, only inspires me to do one thing: turn...it...off. The last time I went to a club (in Turkey in a resort town in the 90's), they were playing a lot of trance-type music, devoid of meaning and heavy on the beat, and I found myself getting progressively angrier and angrier at the mindless, pulsing music...maybe because it seems to encourage people to go inward rather than think about what is outside themselves.

3 old favourites of mine (all of which fall under the electronic bracket)...

I just don't understand how people do that! Everyone I knew who went to raves had to have their ticket payed online, a ride set up, and at very least four beans for the night, usually six. They even had "the rave batches" which were literally boats of E made specifically for the next rave and shipped out. They would even tweak with it according to the rave, like I don't remember exact names, but for example EDC is two days long or something so that batch would probably be a kinda speedy, etc. I mean, I don't know how much relevance all that has but it was my experience. I wouldn't be able to make it through a rave without using... I just, couldn't do it.

Also, though, yeah I suppose I went off topic with this a bit. It was that "Any dance music makes me want to rave" line. Definitely not all electronic music is for raves, as it is a massive genre, with tons of great stuff I still listen to in it. You can do some cool stuff to your music with the right program/hardware.

As much as I agree with you, the thing that got me into trance/happy hardcore/etc. was marijuana. I mean, after that I started making my own trance/experimental tracks, and now that I've stopped the use of drugs, those songs just seem so odd. I have no idea how I could've made something that weird.

Also, though I stopped all of that, I continued making songs. This time they're more of just trance, but I don't do drugs or anything, so it's kind of a difficult argument.

To me Psy trance is the only type of trance that would need drugs to make sense lol. Epic and euphoric stuff like Aly & Fila, at least to me, is just as accessible as anything else. Having said that, I pretty much listen to the weirdest music out there so I don't think I'm a very reliable source for accessible music :p:
