Gash means vagina haha  but if somethings gash then its horrendously bad.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of Wobblestep, but a lot of 2-step, older styled Dubstep, and "Future Garage" is quite nice.

Haha thanks. I had absolutely no idea if that was good or bad :o:

I like a bit of wobblestep, but I like the older stuff back when it still had ties to dub too. It pisses me off to no end when people call dubstep dub and don't know what that actually is.

I think some dance music has to be experienced in a club. For example, Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar has a much better effect in a club than if you're just listening to it on your mp3 player and a rock or other music fan might not get anything from the tune until they heard it in a club.

Howard the Duck 03-16-2011 03:30 AM

^^I'm too busy on the pull in clubs to pay attention to the music

What a load of bollocks.

The hate from hard rock/metal fans on electronic always confuses me because I feel like the tone and feeling is the same between a lot of that and certain subgenres of electronic like dubstep.

Idk, I think both can pump you up in specific and complementing ways.

Scarlett O'Hara 03-21-2011 02:08 AM

^ I like both. One minute I'll be listening to Deadmau5 and next I'll be blasting the Rolling Stones or Sabbath.

Funny thing is I'm an avid fan of both styles of music. =D

Most of these people you speak of, IWP, are people who think of Electronic music (for which they just call "techno") as 4-to-the-floor boom boom boom with high pitched squeal noises and a dude repeating a vocal over and over. They only know what mass media shows them, and it's usually the crappiest, most stereotypical Electronic music there is.
Those people rarely know about the diversity and skill and creativity available below the surface of the garbage they're exposed to. They probably couldn't name more than 4 sub-genres of Electronic. And unfortunately, these people are the ones you'll run into most.

I've been listening to Electronic for over 14 years and the stuff available under this genre is so vast and different and unexpected in all its different forms that I really can't believe that it's all an acquired taste just because it's created electronically.
I think people should do a little more research and spend a little more time and effort getting beyond this readily available crap that's shat out into visibility by default and they'll probably realize that the only thing that was an acquired taste was the garbage they've been force-fed all these years.

Favorite post from this site so far.

I think with any genre, you can come to like it if you give it a chance. I myself have listened to electronic music, some of it I like, some of it I don't. If however you don't like it because somebody else says it sucks, you're not doing yourself any favors, you're just missing out on a potential genre that you may like.

martinielis888 04-05-2011 01:29 PM

not bad

That makes absolutely no sense, unless you're prepared to admit that you're making a ridiculous generalization that the only reason people like Electronic music is because they enjoy listening to it on drugs...

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you failed to make clear. At least, I'm hoping that's the case... Otherwise...

I was thinking the same thing. I've heard plenty of close minded statements about Electronic music, but that's just insane. EVERYONE that listens to it on drugs? Man. I really hope she meant differently.

Or worse, the only value of Electronic music is exclusively apparent to someone on drugs?

Either way, it's such a hugely ignorant statement, that I'm going to stop using the internet for an entire week, just to let that concept have time to be replaced by something more important, like scratching my balls with a fucking toothbrush.

CanwllCorfe 04-09-2011 10:28 PM

Sounds like a plan.

my take on it is something like Rave is obviously made by people on drugs for people on drugs

Your take would be completely misinformed.

Howard the Duck 04-10-2011 02:48 AM

it sounds like that to me

based on the Kaos Theory comps anyway

Freebase Dali 04-10-2011 02:55 AM

If you enjoy generalizing an entire perception/population, that's on you. I'm just saying...

Howard the Duck 04-10-2011 03:46 AM

I'm just talking about Rave.....

Don't think the other sub-genres of electronica are like that at all.

CanwllCorfe 04-11-2011 12:07 PM

Yeah Rave is a weird genre like that. Hardstyle has issues with drug use at the parties, but I know a LARGE amount of people hate those who use them and find it disrespectful. Goa and Psy Trance I think are even worse. But with Hardstyle I don't see why you would need drugs? Being at an event with thousands of people, listening to insanely loud and energetic music, and having lasers flying every which way is as crazy as it's gonna get.

pooka 04-11-2011 12:11 PM

its ok for duce to say but not me. whatever kids.

CanwllCorfe 04-11-2011 12:24 PM

YOU said Electronica, Il Duce said Rave, NOT all sub-genres of Electronica.

Paedantic Basterd 04-11-2011 12:34 PM

A bit like saying all hip hop fans are black, no?

yeah Hardstyle definitely - the music is a drug onto itself

Goan Trance is nearly ambient, I can dig it from a non-drugsy perspective

edit - more dysphasia again - I meant "soothing" "relaxing"

Hagar 04-13-2011 07:41 AM

I reckon that liquid D&B hits the soothing spot for most people -- it's just a matter of timing where it is played

i never once got the racial implications, since it's a different cultural context here - i listen for content not because of race

No, it wasn't bringing in racial implications, just ignorant generalizations.

Did you not see the word "might" in my post. I didn't say it was absolute. But I know it is true for some people and some tunes.

that's actually right.

the same thing can be said about any instrumental music.

People want something they can sing in the shower and if they don't have lyrics to do that then they are sad pandas.

This.

Also, it's sort of hard to get into. Lots of people today like house a lot, so when I play some Goa they don't really get it. Goa's a little crazy, and it's easier to get into something like house than the weird basslines and trippy melodies, I guess. Sucks.
