Boards of Canada

Is anyone feeling boards of canada, there british and they rule.

DeeJay Hollien 05-18-2005 07:29 AM

I have no idea what you are talking about, should I look into it?

PeLectronica 05-24-2005 11:38 AM

I have two albums - "Geogaddi" and "Music Has The Right To Children"
They're not my favourite band but anyway worth checking out.

Sweet Jane 05-25-2005 06:10 PM

I've heard of them and can't remember them at all for some reason... not usually a good sign.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-25-2005 06:28 PM

I`ve been meaning to listen to them for something like 2 years & STILL not got around to it

pheurton 06-28-2007 04:49 AM

BoC are legends.

effervescence 06-28-2007 09:04 AM

Not so keen on the Campfire Headphase (3-4 stars) but Geogaddi is a work of 5-star genius! It even samples Leslie Nielsen (on "Dandelion"). Wonderful bit of work.

Piss Me Off 06-28-2007 09:30 AM

I've got Music Has The Right, its good but theres nothing massively memorable about it. Good for when you're about to nod off to sleep i find.

GravitySlips 06-28-2007 05:27 PM

Good to study/sleep/relax to.

Stars of the Lid have the same vibe, but are better.

PHIX 07-15-2007 12:03 PM

Im a huge fan! I love there originals and there remixes most of all the one they did for cLOUDEAD.

Chaos Is Me 07-19-2007 03:40 AM

Other than mogwai, BOC are the only band that makes me drift off straight away

Absolutely love them!

Nope, they're Scottish. As are Mogwai.

Geogaddi is one of my favourite albums of all time. I've never had a listening experience like the ones I've had with this album... I now refuse to listen to it without closing my eyes.

Brock_West 11-13-2007 08:10 PM

I have Trans Canada Highway.
A really good EP, though I'd like to get more

HawkDoubleDown 11-20-2007 08:12 PM

I have their album "Music has the right to Children" and I have to say it is a very good album. I really like the song Pete Standing Alone. They sometimes almost have a Monolake quality to them.

sleepy jack 11-21-2007 02:44 AM

The Campfire Headphase is my favorite, sick band.

fool on the hill 11-29-2007 10:07 AM

Love 'em. But they're Scottish, not British. So why are they called "Boards of Canada," not "Boards of Scotland"? ;)

Good atmospheric stuff and I love the weird 1970s documentary type retro synths they use, that lo-fi sound.

Sixtyniner is probably my favourite track of theirs... Geogaddi & Children & both excellent albums, heavy on atmospherics...

boards of canada

I dont think there has been a thread about them..?

possibly the greatest IDM duo ever?

geogaddi is a masterpiece

mr dave 01-12-2009 05:20 PM

if only they didn't take the better part of 5 years between albums :(

jackhammer 01-13-2009 03:56 AM

I am listening to my first Boards Of Canada album right now. Pretty good stuff.

indeed. it's been my sleep album of choice for a few weeks now. 'geogaddi' put me to sleep for most of 2008 hehe.

don't overlook their eps, particularly 'twoism' and 'a beautiful place out in the country'.

their latest stuff is almost moving in an 'air' direction with the incorporation of real guitars into some tracks, it still definitely sounds BoC though.

henry 01-14-2009 09:49 AM

geogaddi and twoism are sick

Roygbiv 01-14-2009 10:33 AM

Music Has the Right To Children is way too long to be a masterpiece IMO. I mean, there are fantastic songs on it namely Eagle In Your Mind and Roygbiv, but its over an hour long and varies very little.

It's a great sleep album, I guess, but active listening takes incredible effort.

mr dave 01-14-2009 04:25 PM

music has the right... is also a great work album, depending on the kind of job you have obviously. it was great when i was doing brainless office work a few years ago. do a little work, space out on some tunes, a little more work, a few more tunes, then... BAM! halfway to next break hehe

I am a big fan of Coco, Steel & Lovebomb who are a duo, contrary to what their name says. Very chilled but consistent.

No, it's a trio, but nobody know that one of them is the true invisible man.

Coco, Steel & Lovebomb is a true discovery for me! I love YACHTS.

Robotnik 03-03-2009 11:12 AM

More like BORED of Canada amirite

Nah, BoC are cool. Geogaddi is probably my favorite album. I've never fallen asleep to them, but I often read while playing their music.

Kamikazi Kat 03-10-2009 12:57 AM

I haven't heard that much by them, but from what I've heard I like. Really relaxing music, it always puts me in a really chill mood.

Keigh 03-14-2009 07:50 AM

I have two albums. "Music Has a Right to Children" and "Geogaddi" (not sure of the spelling). Im sure I bought another album but can't remember the title and not feeling like rummaging through my collection right now. I'm a fan. I love the classic feel I get from listening to them.

This Music Sucks 03-17-2009 11:56 AM

Perfect 5am music. Couple that with a mountain, some soft grass and a sunrise.

soundofsilver 03-23-2009 05:23 AM

I have The Campfire Headphase and I absolutely love it. On occasion, I listen to it while going to sleep. <3

BoC are very good. Any similar outfits to BoC out there?

sidewinder 05-02-2009 11:36 AM

I put on Geogaddi again last night because I read this thread...fell asleep pretty quickly. :p: Great album though, I'll have to play it again while conscious in the next week.

Freescha - similar style but have their own vibe. Head Warlock Double Stare is one of my favorites but is very gritty, while the 3 albums before it offer a more organic and clean sound like BoC.

Tycho - Good but a little bit too similar to BoC, in my opinion. Bbut if that's what you're looking for I'd check him out.

Really there are a ton of mellow IDM artists out there that could be recommende to a fan of BoC. But these two come to mind first.
