SYNTH WAVE

So I played Hotline Miami, and now I hunger for more Synthwave/Retrowave in my life. Let this thread be a tribute to the glorious synth-soaked music of champions.

Mondo Bungle 11-14-2016 04:51 PM

I prefer minimal/coldwave but I'm still a wave enthusiast either way.

The Batlord 11-14-2016 04:55 PM

**** this thread's title font that looks bolded even without any new posts.

Goofle 11-14-2016 04:59 PM

This EP bang.

When the surf's up, any wave'll do. :yeah:

*high fives* Bro, that was sick.

The Batlord 11-14-2016 05:21 PM

Suck my aesthedick.

Oriphiel 11-14-2016 05:31 PM

No way, you smell like grease and despair. Plus, I didn't bring my magnifying glass.

Oriphiel 11-15-2016 04:46 AM

This song makes me wanna beat the shit out of someone in a dance club.

Plankton 11-15-2016 07:56 AM

Would this fit the criteria? I'm genretarded so it might not, but it's a great track and it has synths and twinkly stuff.

I don't know if I'd call it a Synthwave song, but anything with synths is welcome here. :thumb:

Plankton 11-15-2016 08:23 AM

Alrighty then. I'll dig into my *cough* vast collection and see if I can find some more.

Oriphiel 11-15-2016 08:48 AM

Sure. If you've got anything with a sort of retro-futuristic vibe, that's what Synthwave is all about (although there are plenty of Synthwave songs with thick and modern House-style bass beats). It's the musical equivalent of the Nostromo from Alien, something that is at once both futuristic and retro.

Plankton 11-15-2016 09:38 AM

^That sounds like some Jan Hammer, but how about some BBD (who kind of have an ELO flavor):

Plankton 11-15-2016 09:53 AM

Trollheart would approve of this one. I remember he was a fan.

Inna Selez 11-15-2016 10:28 AM

First that comes to my mind.

Oriphiel 11-15-2016 11:11 AM

^ All awesome! Those are the kinds of songs that I could drag race down a neon soaked street to, while sitting next to a hot lady cyborg in my sentient and sassy talking sportscar.

Sonar 11-15-2016 12:36 PM

Among the latest stuff I've found I liked Raydar - Neon Graffiti album (Soundcloud link). Tenebre MCMLXXXIV is my favorite song from the release:

Oriphiel 11-15-2016 01:50 PM

Damn, that song is sexy on every level. Love the shredding guitar that kicks in. :yeah:

Plankton 11-15-2016 02:03 PM

Synths and Guitar ey? I have a couple of those, but they might not be what you're looking for. Here's one anyway. I always picture me doing the Jackass Party Boy dance to this one:

Done in real time, one take, some time in 2002

Ha ha, not bad. Solid guitar work. However, it lacks the retro feel that I have such a soft spot for. There's just something about old school '80s-y synths that makes me wanna wear a headband and ride a giant bald eagle.

Plankton 11-15-2016 02:52 PM

Cool, and thanks. Just another excuse to shamelessly plug my crap.

I know what you want. You want some Jan:

Oriphiel 11-15-2016 03:07 PM

Perfect! I've heard that the soundtrack of Miami Vice was a huge influence on Synthwave. I've actually never listened to any of the songs before, or seen any episodes. Crockett's theme is a chill banger.

Plankton 11-15-2016 03:21 PM

It's a mile off base here, but check out Jan's work with Billy Cobham on Spectrum. It's mostly fusion stuff, but there's a killer chill track at the end of the album. Some crazy pitch shifting going on too:

Oriphiel 11-15-2016 03:41 PM

Pretty smooth, nice groove. And the intro sounds like playing an NES game while on LSD. I like it.

innerspaceboy 11-15-2016 04:51 PM

John Carpenter's Lost Themes Vols I & II. Dystopian Synthwave.

Oriphiel 11-15-2016 05:11 PM

^ That's some good stuff, from one of the OG masters of synth soundtracks no less. Makes me wanna dig out some of his old flicks and rewatch them. Good times.

Plankton 11-16-2016 08:40 AM

Here's something I always thought could very well have been inspired by Crockett's Theme. Ronnie on the 6 string and synth:

Oriphiel 11-16-2016 01:48 PM

Nice synth tone in the beginning. :yeah:

Oriphiel 11-17-2016 02:50 AM

If life came with it's own soundtrack, this is the song that would play whenever someone set off on a quest for revenge.

Plankton 11-17-2016 07:22 AM

Music to get chased by a pimp to...

Original:

Riskay:

Oriphiel 11-17-2016 08:18 AM

"I'm being chased by Guido, the killer pimp."

The full length song sounds like great music to play while driving in the rain, especially from 2:41 onward.

Plankton 11-17-2016 08:45 AM

Tangerine Dream had a few heavy hitters in that soundtrack, but that one's my favorite.

2nd Fav (remix, but yeah...):

Oriphiel 11-17-2016 11:06 AM

Awesome, and hypnotic. The video matches the song perfectly.

Inna Selez 12-12-2016 03:06 PM

One of the new covers. Hope I'm not wrong with genre.

grindy 12-18-2016 11:46 AM

Any fans of November Növelet?

Inna Selez 01-10-2017 01:42 PM

Found it today and decided to bring here.

Oriphiel 01-11-2017 08:35 AM

Very chill. I like it.

Inna Selez 01-20-2017 12:23 PM

Not sure if it's 100% synthwave, but good anyway.

Inna Selez 01-23-2017 10:54 AM

One more pearl in our collection.
