SYNTH WAVE
So I played Hotline Miami, and now I hunger for more Synthwave/Retrowave in my life. Let this thread be a tribute to the glorious synth-soaked music of champions.
I prefer minimal/coldwave but I'm still a wave enthusiast either way.
**** this thread's title font that looks bolded even without any new posts.

This EP bang. |

Suck my aesthedick.
No way, you smell like grease and despair. Plus, I didn't bring my magnifying glass.
This song makes me wanna beat the shit out of someone in a dance club.
Would this fit the criteria? I'm genretarded so it might not, but it's a great track and it has synths and twinkly stuff.

Alrighty then. I'll dig into my *cough* vast collection and see if I can find some more.
Sure. If you've got anything with a sort of retro-futuristic vibe, that's what Synthwave is all about (although there are plenty of Synthwave songs with thick and modern House-style bass beats). It's the musical equivalent of the Nostromo from Alien, something that is at once both futuristic and retro.
^That sounds like some Jan Hammer, but how about some BBD (who kind of have an ELO flavor):
Trollheart would approve of this one. I remember he was a fan.
First that comes to my mind.
^ All awesome! Those are the kinds of songs that I could drag race down a neon soaked street to, while sitting next to a hot lady cyborg in my sentient and sassy talking sportscar.
Among the latest stuff I've found I liked Raydar - Neon Graffiti album (Soundcloud link). Tenebre MCMLXXXIV is my favorite song from the release:
Damn, that song is sexy on every level. Love the shredding guitar that kicks in. :yeah:
Synths and Guitar ey? I have a couple of those, but they might not be what you're looking for. Here's one anyway. I always picture me doing the Jackass Party Boy dance to this one:
Done in real time, one take, some time in 2002 |

Cool, and thanks. Just another excuse to shamelessly plug my crap.
I know what you want. You want some Jan: |
Perfect! I've heard that the soundtrack of Miami Vice was a huge influence on Synthwave. I've actually never listened to any of the songs before, or seen any episodes. Crockett's theme is a chill banger.
It's a mile off base here, but check out Jan's work with Billy Cobham on Spectrum. It's mostly fusion stuff, but there's a killer chill track at the end of the album. Some crazy pitch shifting going on too:
Pretty smooth, nice groove. And the intro sounds like playing an NES game while on LSD. I like it.
John Carpenter's Lost Themes Vols I & II. Dystopian Synthwave.
^ That's some good stuff, from one of the OG masters of synth soundtracks no less. Makes me wanna dig out some of his old flicks and rewatch them. Good times.
Here's something I always thought could very well have been inspired by Crockett's Theme. Ronnie on the 6 string and synth:
Nice synth tone in the beginning. :yeah:
If life came with it's own soundtrack, this is the song that would play whenever someone set off on a quest for revenge.
Music to get chased by a pimp to...
Original: Riskay: |
"I'm being chased by Guido, the killer pimp."
The full length song sounds like great music to play while driving in the rain, especially from 2:41 onward. |
Tangerine Dream had a few heavy hitters in that soundtrack, but that one's my favorite.
2nd Fav (remix, but yeah...): |
Awesome, and hypnotic. The video matches the song perfectly.
One of the new covers. Hope I'm not wrong with genre.
Any fans of November Növelet?
Found it today and decided to bring here.
Very chill. I like it.
Not sure if it's 100% synthwave, but good anyway.
One more pearl in our collection.
