Kraftwerks music typifies the German mentality (for me anyway).
Total lack of feeling and emotion. I know I'm stereotyping, but I also believe that there is such a thing as a national trait.
Interesting music played by euronutters. :)

Remember a German band called Laibach? They did a very strange version of
'Sympathy for the Devil' well worth a listen.

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-07-2005 03:10 PM

I could listen to Trans Euro Express all day

In fact I think I will

right-track 08-07-2005 03:20 PM

I could listen to Man Machine all day...

...if I was a robot.

PhishFood 08-07-2005 03:50 PM

man machine is the greatest ......

hookers with machineguns 08-08-2005 04:15 PM

I could listen to Man Machine and AND Trans Euro Express all day.

uuuuhh..i have to correct you there right track, laibach is a slovenian band ( laibach is the german name for ljubljana-their capital ), they sing in german so i can see how you could get confused, and they are heavily influenced or influenced ramstein....
oh and i don't like kraftwerk, granted i haven't heard much from them and i acknowledge that they were ahead of their time, but still, technologic sucks ass....

Slovenian band singing in German...interesting...but why, is it a second language?

Not keen on Kraftwerk either adidasss... I'm sure I heard somewhere they were planning on having musical suits made, so they could play their own clothes live on stage!!!

no, it's not a second language, i have no idea why they're singing in german, maybe they wanted to appeal to the german audience?
and that's pretty out there ( kraftwerk)

bigbird 08-09-2005 07:49 AM

I'm proud that the day I was born number 1 was The Model / Computer Love

cane creek 09-14-2005 05:03 PM

PopIsDead 05-07-2007 06:52 PM

I think I could listen to just the title song from Trans-Europe Express all day long. It's that good. I could also listen to the whole album all day long as well. I'm having trouble expressing my thoughts today.

Or... in my case, Wir laden unsere Batterie... even should be humming I'm the Operator with my Pocket Calculator as it's the song I'm listening to at the moment.

And that, friends and neighbors, is my first post!

jackhammer 09-27-2007 06:47 PM

Although it was a different type of Electronica, I have always much preferred TANGERINE DREAM. Kraftwerk's influence should'nt be forgotten though. Afrika Bambataa has stated it as a massive influence, and his influence on U.S electro largely goes un-noticed too.

I listened to Kraftwerk quite a lot as a child... amazing group. Sometimes I forget just how ahead of their time they were because their music sounds so dated now.

cardboard adolescent 12-05-2007 09:31 PM

Their second album is my favorite.

O'Bannion 12-06-2007 07:53 AM

Autobahn is amazing. That's the only thing I've heard by them, but it was pretty sweet stuff.

Farfisa 11-13-2008 03:27 AM

"The Man Machine" is the best electronic album I've heard since.. well, ever. :D

I have never really been able to get into Kraftwerk. I much prefer the lush soundscapes of their fellow country men Tangerine Dream but there is no denying Kraftwerks influence on many genres.

kthedrummer 11-13-2008 05:22 AM

Autobahn cover always reminds me of The Big Lebowski.

Bulldog 11-13-2008 06:20 AM

Haven't got all that many Kraftwerk albums. 'Man Machine', 'Autobahn', and I'd recommend 'the Mix' to any fans who don't already have it. My favourite was their live album 'Minimum/Maximum', but I lent it to some bastard who never gave it back :(

I've only listened to a few electronic albums to tell you the truth... So what I said above really doesnt mean all that much .

I like Kraftwerk immensely and also understand their influence but have to admit that I have always wondered why Tangerine Dream's Phaedra fails to get as much praise when it is such an influential album.

This album introduced me to electronic music when I purchased it on release in 1974. It came to the attention due to the hype in the music press and the fact that it was a Virgin Records release and they were a progressive label at the time. I agree about the lushness of the sound. Phaedra has it in abundance when compared to say Autobahn, a very very sparse record in comparison. My memory is that Phaedra had a far bigger impact. IIRC someone like Funkadelic/Parliament, I am happy to be corrected on that one, claimed Kraftwerks influence and that seemed to be a catalyst later on.

Pornographie Nouveau 11-27-2008 10:21 AM

I really love Trans-Europe Express. Strangely catchy. I need to get some more albums, I'll probably get Autobahn.

Seltzer 11-27-2008 02:39 PM

They came to Auckland a couple of days ago but I was too poor to see them. :(

aaron76 04-14-2009 11:05 PM

Kraftwerk, in my opinion are completely lacking in any sort of funk or soul BUT that I suppose was the point. I have Man Machine, Computer World and I like Autobahn and Radioactivity. I don't listen to them often, but there is no denying their influence, especially on Detroit. If it wasn't for Chicago and Detroit we wouldn't have much to listen to today.
Yes, the music has developed much much more in Europe where it really took off, but the melding of technology and funk came from the States.

simonelli 04-15-2009 05:19 PM

a song by theirs that i just recently discovered is "Tour de France (Etape 2)". Brilliant.

I've always thought The Man Machine is their most accessible, get that.

Bulldog 10-18-2009 03:39 PM

Minimum Maximum's good for a beginner too. One of my favourite official live albums that.

Might just give it a spin in a bit as well.

TotalHenshin 10-18-2009 04:41 PM

I'm more keen on Schaufensterpuppen than any of their other songs. Also, why is it that no one's said TEE is accessible? It's the first album of theirs I listened to, and it is very "listenable" (so to speak).

I realize this is a Kraftwerk thread, but let me just say CAN were great contemporaries.

Molecules 10-18-2009 05:40 PM

Minimum Maximum and the Mix are the raviest =P

Kraftwerk's influence in music is amazing.

They influenced countless black metal bands, particularly Scandinavian. They were a major influence on Darkthrone, Beherit, and Burzum, to such an extent that members of all these groups went on to create their own electronica.

I think it'd be rather fun to sit them down, play Burzums first album, and, poking them in the chest, proclaim "Ya know you're a huge influence on this convicted murderer?"
