The Tuss is pretty damn good. The Confederation Trough EP is great too.

He makes good singles when he wants to but I find a lot of this music to be basically electronic wankery. It's tough to recommend albums by him. If I bought any of his material it would be a Come To Daddy or Windowlicker 12" single.

thought i would revive this thread since i'm kind of on an aphex twin binge today.

come to daddy is probably my favorite bit of work by him...saw1 a close second. he apparently experiences synesthesia while making music and also incorporates what he experiences with lucid dreaming. no wonder a lot of his stuff is totally off the wall.

selected ambient works 85-92 is an album you need to have, dont bother with the 2nd volume, as i read someone in this thread say, it songs dont give you enough and go on for too long. ageispolis being the best track on the album, and one of my favourite songs, a band called future rock, attempted a band cover of it at a festival, ill find the youtube link .... okay i cant post the link because im under 15 posts, but type future rock - ageispolis if your interested and its the 1st link.

not awesome, but its kind of inspiring - would be a fun song to cover

Come to Daddy is great, probably my second favorite, but I think Richard D. James album is my favorite. Probably because it was the first I heard.

I wouldn't dismiss SAWII. I don't listen to it much, but it's quality stuff. Yes it's long, but if you don't try to take it all in in one sitting, it's cool. I used to put it on to fall asleep to. Actually I used to sleep to RDJ Album too, not sure how that worked. SAWI is great and a classic, I just really hate the sound quality. I have a hard time listening to it nowadays.

You guys listen to any of his AFX stuff? He just re-released all of the Analord EPs digitally (they were only vinyl before) with about a dozen new/unreleased tracks spread out over the different EPs. There are some great ones.

http://www.rephlex.com

There's supposed to be a new Aphex album this year (rumored by one of the label heads at Warp Records)...but who knows with this guy. It's definitely going to be a great year for the genre, though. A handful of great new albums were released by Rephlex (in the link above), and Warp seems like it will put out an album from each of its heavyweights with Autechre's new one in March, Plaid's long awaited new album sometime in the first half of the year, supposedly new Aphex Twin and supposedly new Boards of Canada (last two are unconfirmed but rumored). I'd love to hear a new EP from Clark, too.

agreed. it took me a little longer to get into SAW2 but it was well worth it. the first one is nice but tends to be a little too busy at times. it's a great bridge to get into the really sparse ambient styles that are out there but as a pure ambient disc i think SAW1 is a little too active.

new BoC would be glorious, it's been 5 years since the last one so they're about due again.

Yeah though the last one wasn't all that great, I'm not as anxious about it as I am for the other artists. I'll definitely still check it out as soon as it's released, though.

i really hope it is true that they are coming out with a new one...the campfire headphase was flawless imo. i've actually been wondering when they might come out with new stuff for a while now.

i'll have to check out that AFX stuff, though...i have most of his main releases but i was just recently inspired to dig a little deeper. he is definitely one of the most quirky artists around and it really comes out in his music.

Okay, somebody compared my music to Aphex Twin the other day so... where should I start? Anybody have any ideas? I'd like to get a little taste before I go and get a discog or something.
