Portishead, Busdriver, the Cure and Lightning Bolt earn that list about a 8/10 from me. Good stuff!

Been mostly in an old school hip-hop mood lately. Here's what I've been listening to in the past week:

Hawkwind
A Tribe Called Quest
Run DMC
Big Daddy Kane
Dr. Octagon
Propellerheads
King Geedorah
Digable Planets
Jungle Brothers
De La Soul

Some GREAT choices and some absolutely HORRIBLE ones. Overall though I wouldn't mind listening to that playlist, even if it is a bit "safe".

My latest, mostly noise rock and experimental music:

Greduction Stimulus
Big Black
John Cage
The Monks
PiL
Iron Curtain
Captain Beefheart
Faust
Liars
Haha, Im actually intriguied as to what you think is 'horrible' from the list I gave.

However, I 'cheated' as such & had a quick nosey at your profile. It says your from texas so I guess it would be the likes of the british based artists such as Ocean Colour Scene, Paul Weller etc.
Not a patch on your beloved ZZ Top huh?
Dont worry I can understand, these bands are rooted in British culture and I dont really expect you to be into them.
I suppose its like how Im not really that into Springsteen, but I love Paul Weller.

I dont get what your on about here , I do listen to a lot of obscure stuff as well, if thats what your meaning. Just for the purpose of that A-Z post I had to choose my 'favourite' artist for each letter of the alphabet & there were multiple choices I could have picked for just about every letter. so it's pretty much a very bleak insight into my taste in music.

P.S. Captain Beefheart is weird as ****! I still prefer Frank Zappa though .
Also if you like 'noise' as in actual noise you should check out a guy called Merzbow.

I meant horrible as in Iron Maden and Van Halen... so 80's :P. I deducted two points each for those two. And just because I'm from Texas doesn't mean I ZZ Top! Granted it seems like everybody else does..

I was a bit harsh in calling it "safe" as I myself listen to alot of mainstream music. All apologies.

PS. Captain Beefheart owns Zappa fool!

Really? lol, Van Halen & Iron Maiden are good man!.
I take it you're a 60s or 70s kid then? (perhaps Im wrong...)

Also people who say they hate all 80s music are just being ridiculous & one track minded. (P.S. I know you didnt say that though)
Theres bound to be at least one album they hear and will like you know.
I can understand as 80s was a departure from the 60s-70s sound and the move into the more modern music sound. (which I much prefer comapared to 60s or 70s) although there is great music for just about every year, you just have to look for it.

If you look at the charts in any period, theres going to be a load of **** in it no matter what; considering it has got progressively worse as the decades increased.
Haha youve got to be different i suppose, its like saying just because Im scottish I automatically love Idlewild & Travis- which i do like, just not that mad about them.

Yeah well, when it comes to music I dont think of it in terms of whether it's 'mainstream' or not. If it's good I'll listen to it. I dont care if it's not cool or whatever.

I find it kind of ironic when you called my music taste 'safe' as the list I gave is pretty much just when i had to pick my total favourite artists for the alphabet, but it wasnt easy, for most letter there were like 5 or 6 i could have picked you know.
You dont know about half the mad stuff I listen to, also I am totally used to people, whenever Im listening to something, saying 'what the **** is that **** your listening to??'.

Also as for both artists I think they should both be praised and not competed against each other.

Although some of their stuff I find quite hard to listen to sometimes, they are both great artists & they do their own thing & stand out from the rest- which is something I greatly admire & respect.
