While the band may have been shat out into existence within the Canadian borders, it was American record label Roadrunner that saw that shit and decided to put it in the spotlight for all to see.

This is very true. I remember at the time, I heard them and didn't think they were a good fit for the label at all. I suppose they fit in with the dynamic at the time better than, say, The Dresden Dolls (very confused as to how they wound up on Roadrunner) but so much of Roadrunner's fare at the time was more aggressive nu metal type stuff. At the time, I was all about headbanging and mosh pits and found them to be pussified.

With that said, at least their earlier stuff was more palatable than the utter swill they're putting out today - at least then, their lyrical "content" was just angry and brooding. Now, it appears to be them angry and pissed off at how much money they have, how many women are throwing themselves at the band, and how much they party.

Chad Kroeger deserves a swift kick to the vagina, for real.

I was going to make an angry comment about seeing this thread's existence but this quote pretty much sums up my feelings.

Roadrunner actually started in the Netherlands. So if you don't want to blame Canada for Nickelback (even though you should) blame the dutch.

To the person who said maybe I'll like Staind next...I actually do like them also. This community does well in accepting newcomers even though my taste's aren't quite what other people's may be. It's pretty funny, I don't listen to radio because I don't like being force-fed hits (which is why I'm assuming many other people don't as well), but then I'm told to listen to the radio to find other good songs...by the same bands that produce (in almost everyone's opinion) mediocre hit after mediocre hit? Strange...

The problem is, you don't listen to radio but still happen to be into the bands/music that gets airplay. Usually people that don't bother with radio end up listening to different music.

Therefore the comment "You should listen to radio" makes sense because you actually seem to enjoy the kind of music that is forced down your throat. Also, a lot of what you find on the radio will be better than Creed, Nickelback and Staind.

The bands that get played on the radio are catchy at first, like it or not, but then they get overplayed so much to the point of madness almost. I don't listen to the radio, but I know catchy radio-orientated music when I hear it. When I first heard "Rockstar", I thought it was boring right away, which meant that I wasn't going to let it be force-fed to me through radio, although friends still do it. I don't need to listen to the radio to know the hits when friends' ask me if I heard the latest from, while were on the subject, Nickelback. I actually haven't heard their newest album, and don't intend to unless I buy their album, which I will eventually.

Also, I listen to lots of music, so whether it's mainstream or obscure, I like it. Death metal isn't played on the radio, but I love the genre. I don't know what to say to justify why I like the music I do, I just...do. I might not like every single genre, or every single style, but the genres I do like, I like 99% of bands in those genres.

If I appear argumentative, I apologize, it's just that I love music, it's a passion of mine, and whether I realize that Nickelback, Staind and Creed aren't the "cream-of-the-crop" when it comes to Rock music, I still like them just as much as the more obscure bands.
