well you've really only told me that they are cheaper.
macs offer much more than pc's do. i think pc's are great if you want to surf the internet or play solitaire. macs are much better for people such as graphic artists, audio professionals, etc, because they can handle the programs.

Anyhow, I have no problems with Macs. Macs are better for some people and PCs are better for others. I do have a problem however with Apple selling an image rather than a product. Also I'm sick of Mac evangelists piping on about the greatness of Apple... the common case is that Apples suit them because they're not too good with computers and they've finally found a computer they can use without problems. That's fine and they'll pay a higher price for this ease of use, but their personal preference doesn't mean that Apple is suddenly objectively superior and more reliable as they'd love to claim. It means that Apples are the better product for their purposes, since they cannot or do not want to acquire the knowledge allowing them to purchase a good PC, use Windows, and surf the net without inviting viruses to join in. So yes, Macs suit some people, PCs suit others. I triple boot Ubuntu / Vista / XP. Ubuntu for most things and coding, Vista for Windows stuff and playing Battlefield 1 and XP for gaming.

I would never use a "free" program in my profession. Imagine if albums were recorded on GarageBand? No. No dice, friends. All I'm saying is that Mac's totally have a niche for people who NEED them. I think we are all in agreeance with this, no?

It's not a fair test to take an arbitrary PC and Mac, run ProTools on both, compare results, and then infer that a Mac will always be a better choice for audio work. The typical Mac will probably be better than the typical PC for audio work and this is because Apples tend to be geared towards audio whereas PCs are whatever you make them. If you buy a pre-built PC from a big retailer (the majority of PCs), you can't expect it to be great for audio work because that isn't the target market of the manufacturer. However, you can build your own PC and customise it so that its audio hardware specs are equivalent to an Apple computer. It might end up being cheaper or more expensive. PC equivalents are generally cheaper, but I'm not sure if that is true when it comes to audio hardware. But yeah, I don't know why people can't accept that PCs and Macs both have their merits and are better suited for particular people.

Exactly. I own a Mac, my wife owns a PC (in this case a Toshiba laptop running Windows Vista). They're both fine. I prefer a Mac because (a) I'm a graphic designer and every other designer I know also has a Mac, which means it's a hell of a lot easier for me to get design programs for free for a Mac, (b) I'm less likely to run into compatibility issues with design files, and (c) I've been using Mac for 12 or 13 years and am just much more comfortable with them. This doesn't mean I think Macs are better, I just think they suit my purposes better.

Strangely enough, Justice record on garageband....haha I am shocking with technology and find the more user friendly non-nerd orientated playing field of the mac to be far superior for my uses. As for music software, i have a pro-tools set up, but can;t really be arsed using it for ****ty demos when I have an associate with a brilliant first class studio with all the equipment one could ever need at my disposal. Garageband is more than enough for all your ****ty demoing needs

Haha, I think it's kinda funny that everyone takes offence to it. I mean, I really don't have anything against a PC, I just think Macs are better for what I need to do on a daily basis. I kinda just wanted to see what everyones opinions were. We need a poll. ![]()
