I don't have much time to post new questions these days, so I don't know when they're gonna come up. As before, if anyone else feels the call - go for it!

Guybrush 03-07-2009 06:18 AM

Since noone felt like it, here are some quick & smart lyrics-related questions :

Nonsensicality aside so you don't get confused, I'm actually asking for the group or artist here. Sometimes you get to choose which :
  1. Who are the dandy highwaymen that you're too scared to mention?
  2. Who is a material girl?
  3. Which country supergroup will be back again - and again - and again - and again - and again - and again - and again .. ?
  4. Which band has it's members sleeping with one eye open, gripping their pillows tight?
  5. Who is the spiderman having for dinner tonight?
  6. Who feels stupid and contagious? Mullato, albino, mosquito, libido?
  7. Who's momma just killed a man?
  8. Who is it who everytime he looks in the mirror, all these lines on his face are getting clearer?
  9. Who thinks it's not too late to learn how to love and forget how to hate?
  10. Who's wondering : Who are you? Who who? - Who who?

As before, if you answer - give answers to all of them .. Picking the questions apart and only answering some will give you 0 points.

And no cheating!

Haha .. I honestly never thought about that before  Boy, do I feel stupid. Thanks for finally making sense of that verse. ;)

The solutions I didn't give you points for are these :
1. The highwaymen you're too scared to mention are Adam and the Ants, song "Stand and Deliver" ..
3. The country supergroup that will be back again and again are The Highwaymen, song "Highwayman" (actually a cover) ..
5. The spiderman is having Robert Smith from The Cure for dinner tonight, song "Lullaby" ..
8. Steven Tyler from Aerosmith sees his wrinkles clearing up, song "Dream On" ..
6 out of 10 isn't bad and gives you another 6 points to a grand total of 14!

I'll post the scores on the first post.

edit :

Scoreboard is now up on the first page! :D

Here are some more questions. Again, answer all and don't cheat .. These are songs from movies, often appearing on soundtracks. Which movie? If the song is not on a soundtrack or appears in more than one movie, then simply try listing the one you think I'm thinking of.
  1. Kenny Loggins - Footloose
  2. A-Ha - The Living Daylights
  3. Berlin - Take My Breath Away
  4. Aerosmith - I Don't Want to Miss a Thing
  5. Bee Gees - Staying Alive

  8. Survivor - Eye of the Tiger

The one you both got wrong was the James Bond movie that shares the same name as the song, The Living Daylights. Still, good job overall from both of you, landing you both 8 points for a 8 points total!

I gotta run out and do some fieldwork, so I won't get to post 10 new, but as before .. anyone who wants, go ahead. :)

Guybrush 03-16-2009 04:38 AM

Alright, here's a new format. This time, all you have to do is tell me who these people are. I'm hosting the pictures myself, so there's no use looking at filenames or at the site for clues.

PS! The rules are as before.
  • If you answer, provide answers for all, otherwise you get 0 points
  • Don't cheat! If you don't know, you don't know .. don't go google search every artist out there for pictures until you stumble over an answer.

I've tried to make it a tiny bit hard while still focusing on very popular artists.

Here they are!

1. http://l/01.jpg

2. http://l/quiz/02.jpg

3. http://l/quiz/03.jpg

4. http://l/quiz/04.jpg

Gah, picture limit .. continued in the next post.

For those who are confused now, these pictures are the new set of questions for the next step in the quiz. Because of the picture posting limit, I had to divide the "questions" up into several posts. Backtrack a couple of posts to find all the pictures, then tell me who they are of!

Good luck! :)

Guybrush 03-17-2009 05:16 AM

Anyone? .. Oh well, if noone provides the answers the next couple of days or so, I'll post the solutions and make a new set of questions.

Meph1986 03-17-2009 09:34 AM

I'm missing 8 and 9 :(

Guybrush 03-18-2009 09:13 AM

Alright, some more questions!

First - if you answer one - answer all!
And - no cheating - no looking up answers outside the thread!

that said, let's get on with the questions! :)
1. This belgian gypsy jazz artist suffered severe burns over much of his body when he knocked over a candle one night when going to bed. Among other things, his third and fourth finger on the left hand was nearly useless afterwards. Still, he managed to keep playing guitar and is to this day widely regarded as one of jazz's most famous guitar virtuosos. Who am I thinking of?

2. One day in 1983 while driving around on tour, the members of Metallica awoke their lead guitarist, said he was out of the band and dumped him at a buss station - just like that! The guitarist wanted revenge on his former bandmates - and even more so when they used his stuff on their debut album. Not long after, he made his own band to compete against Metallica. Who was this kicked guitarist and what's his band?

3. Because I'm loving it so much at the moment, which early prog band recorded the album Close to the Edge in 1972? The album is widely regarded as the band's magnum opus and was, among other things, voted the greatest progressive album of all time by progarchives in 2006.

4. Eric Clapton's son died in 1991 when he was only four years old and fell out of a window. Eric Clapton with help from Will Jennings wrote a song dedicated to his son. It has since become one of his most famous .. what's the name of this song?

5. Judas Priest are famous for many things musical, but also for their fashion sense. What are they famous for wearing?

6. A famous black american artist who was blind from birth joined Paul McCartney in the studio to record the song "Ebony and Ivory" which at a deeper level than keys on the piano deals with racial harmony between black and white people. Who was this artist?

7. Rob Zombie has gone on from a successful solo career to directing horror movies like "House of 1000 corpses". What is his famous old band founded by him called?

8. A famous artist got punched in the eye at 15 years of age, a punch that caused the pupil on his injured eye to become permanently dilated. Because of this, he is often wrongly believed to have different coloured eyes. Which artist am I thinking of?

9. The Beastie Boys song "Get it Together" from the 1994 album "Ill Communication" features guest artist Q-Tip. The group he hailed from disbanded in 1998. What was it's name?

10. The song "Islands in the Stream" was written by the Bee Gees, but is famously sung as a duet between two american country stars. The single is from 1983. Who are the country artists?
Good luck! :)

khfreek 03-18-2009 02:57 PM

1. Django Reinhardt
2. Dave Mustaine
3. Yes
4. Tears in Heaven
5. They're hell bent for leather
6. Ray Charles
7. White Zombie
8. David Bowie
9. Wu Tang Clan
10. Dolly Parton and the Crosby guy

And I thought I was gonna get 10/10 too :( Fingers crossed for 9?

You got 7 out of 10 which is not too shabby either :)

You haven't provided me with Dave Mustaine's band yet, but I'm guessing you just forgot and know which it is.

That gives you a total of 21 points, pushing you to the top of the scoreboard!

The solutions you didn't get were these :

6. Stevie Wonder
9. A Tribe Called Quest
10. Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton

I'll post more questions sometime, probably tomorrow!

7. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote a role specifically for Sarah Brightman in one of his famous musicals. Which musical and what role? If you don't remember the name of the role, try to describe.

8. Ricki Wilde was only 11 when his first single was recorded. His song "I am an Astronaut" has been covered by numerous artists since. Who is his even more famous sibling?

9. The 1982 album "Black Metal" is regarded a huge influence on the genre that would later take it's name. What band released that album?

10. Music Inspired by the Snow Goose (or simply "The Snow Goose") is the name of an album inspired by Paul Gallico's story "The Snow Goose: A Story of Dunkirk". Put roughly, the story is about the man Philip Rhayader and the girl Fritha who tend to a wounded goose. As their friendship grows, the goose is nursed back to flight.
