Without a doubt the best attempt so far .. :)

Marvin was right, yodelling was right, Boston was of course right .. Martin Luther King is missing Jr. to his name, but that's no biggie, Motley Crue is right and so is Nena .. Johnny is a very good attempt, but it should have been John Joseph or perhaps just John. Rush is also right.

I'll just list the solutions I'm not giving you points for :
  • 3. Alice Cooper
  • 8. John Joseph Lydon
  • 10. Pearl Jam

That gives jackhammer 7 points and a 7 points total!

Stand by for more quiz-stuff. :)

Alright, I was a bit worried that the last would get difficult, but seeing how well Lee did, I'm not too worried anymore. Here are some more questions of varying difficulty. I expect most will know some but not all of these. If you don't know any, go and learn!

As before, if you answer, you have to answer all or you get no points, even if correct. Also, no looking up stuff.
  1. Robert Fripp doesn't like to stand while playing guitar on stage. Instead he prefers to ... ?
  2. Phil Collins eventually became the frontman of the prog band Genesis. Who sang and fronted the band before him?
  3. In the late 60s while playing a concert, the band Cream invited a now popular but then largely unknown artist up on stage to jam with them on the song "Killing floor". Word has it the guest played Eric Clapton's socks off, outstaging him on his own concert. Who was this guest?
  4. Courtney Love is the lead singer for the band Hole. She also had a two-years marriage with a popular grunge icon. Who?
  5. The producer behind hit albums like Beatles "Abbey Road" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" also has his own music "project". What is it called?
  6. Elton John's song "Candle in the Wind" was written in 1973 as a tribute to Marilyn Monroe. In 1997, he rerecorded it as a tribute to who .. ?
  7. Ronnie James Dio is a metal legend and is well known for singing with Black Sabbath and, of course, the band "Dio". In the 70s, he was also recruited into a successful metal band by Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore. What was the name of this band?
  8. What remains to this date the world's best selling album?
  9. Give me Band / Album / Songtitle to go with the following lyrics "London is drowning and I - live by the river!"
  10. Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" doesn't just contain perhaps the world's most well-known guitar riff, it also recounts a true story. From the lyrics, Frank Zappa and the Mothers of invention were having a concert at the gambling house (Montreux Casino). Something happens during the concert. What?

Come on guys!

Wow, another great attempt by Lee :)

Fripp likes to sit, correct. Peter Gabriel is correct. 3, as Piss Me Off posted, should have been Jimi Hendrix. Kurt Cobain is correct - Alan Parsons is nearly correct, but the full name of his "music project" (it was a hint) was "The Alan Parsons Project". Princess Di is correct, so is Rainbow and Thriller and London Calling by The Clash is good. I'm also giving you right on the last. According to the song, "some stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground".

That gives jackhammer 8 more points for a 15 points total. :)

Great job!

I'll post more in a bit!

jackhammer 02-27-2009 04:58 AM

I misread number 3 and was going to say Hendrix but you said 'a now popular artist' I mistook that for someone still alive today and then was stumped :( and Alan Parsons is nitpicking. You included project so by inserting the name it is obvious what is implied. I demand a recount :D

Guybrush 02-27-2009 05:23 AM

Actually, I thought something like that might've happened regarding Parsons .. (the group is more popular than him in a way anyways) I might give you one for that. ;)

Here's the new set by the way!
  1. Bon Scott was AC/DC's singer, but died in 1980. Afterwards, the band considered breaking up, but decided to hire a new singer and continue. The first post-bon album released the same year he died was "Back in Black" which is now only behind Thriller as the most sold album and officially the best selling album by a band. What's the name of AC/DC's singer who was recruited in time to make this masterpiece?
  2. Michael Angelo Batio is one of many known guitar virtuosos. He's known for playing a somewhat special guitar. What's so special about it? Name it or describe roughly.
  3. Which wacky and zany bespeckled fun-punk band played the minor hit "Nellie the Elephant"?
  4. The album "The Crazy World of Arthur Brown" was a psychedelia landmark from the group by the same name. If I'm thinking of a hot hit from that album, what is the title of the song I'm thinking of?
  5. David Bowie's song "I'm Afraid of Americans" was co-written by Bowie and Brian Eno, but a mix-collaboration version with a certain american industrial rock group would produce the most popular version with an accompanying music video. Which group?
  6. Not long ago, Coldplay was (again) sued for plagiarism by a famous guitarist for stealing significant portions of his song for their hit "Viva la Vida" from their latest album. Which famous guitarist?
  7. Marilyn Manson has covered many songs, among them popular 80s hit "Tainted Love". However, the song was first popularized with another cover version in 1981 by which english synthpop duo?
  8. Which famous country artist co-starred in all three of the Smokey and the Bandits films and also got a hit with the theme for the first movie?
  9. Which now deceased austrian pop artist made a "rap song" about Amadeus Mozart?
  10. Who made the soundtrack for the movie "Edward Scissorhands"?

Because Lee has done so well, I'm making them perhaps even harder.

jackhammer 02-27-2009 05:27 AM

I know 7 out of 10 but it's only fair to let someone else have a go!
