I find being with the same person all lovey dovey is more fulfilling than shagging anything that moves. I guess I'm weird, most friends and males I've spoke to like the whole shagging about thing so I don't know, each to their own type of situation I guess. 1 night stands are just really awkward and shitty.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I've done the whole one night stand/no strings thing before, I slept around a bit when I was slightly younger and I just didn't really enjoy it. It's even worse when the other person begins to get attached and you just aren't interested. It can be all fun and games until then, cos it just made me feel really really low on the two occasions it happened.

I've never been much of a one night stand person either. But it's not as if marriage or one night stands are the only two options of how to spend your 20s. I spent mine dating around, hanging out and having fun. It wasn't a different woman every night but it also wasn't marriage.

Meh yeah, I suppose there is middle ground. I think that's a nice way to live, quite fulfilling and not a sh*tty shallow lifestyle. But I wouldn't be scared to commit to someone if they were the right girl.

My mom got married when she was 20, my dad was 24. It took them nearly 10 years to have a kid though. But that was in 1981 and my mom never went to university because she didn't have to. It's different today - most people here go to university or college at 18 or 19, spend 3 or 4 years in school where they will most likely meet the person they might get married to. Then when school is done, you're around 22 and trying to jumpstart your professional life or thinking about grad school. And if you're in a serious relationship or just married, your partner is probably doing the same. No time for a family just yet - I think most people now are waiting till their late 20's or early 30's to have a kid. Especially women. If you have kids that means you need a day job, and if you're still completing a degree or something it's going to take a lot longer because you need to go to night school.

But then again, the earlier you have kids, the earlier you can send them off to college. You can work and save your money for all your travelling dreams and such when your kids are young. Some people even take early retirement and then do all that stuff.

Hey...I thought this thread was supposed to be about how old people seem to be based on their posts, not about their real ages!!

But as for my *real* age, AwwSugar, I thought you knew that if you were Luke Skywalker, I would be old enough to say to you, "Luke, I am youur Motherrrrrr."

This is definitely true for some of my friends. I feel having a significant other for several years to see how it works out for both people is definitely better than jumping into a marriage quickly. Break-ups are hard enough without all the legal issues and bitterness to work through in a divorce.

Once you reach that stage, every person you're with then becomes a potential husband or wife, and if one of them is someone you get along with and has similar goals and values, they'll probably be the one you marry. It's as much to do with 'when' as it is with 'who.'
I agree with you completely, jibber. The "when" is very important. But I do think sometimes certain people are a better fit than others. The way life is, though, most people just don't have time to have a lot of long-term significant others (to test compatibility), so the selection pool of potential spouses is pretty small. I think people who meet and find they click really well, and then are actually able to get married, are very lucky.

I think you are right: people are having their child at an older age, and for women this has positives and negatives. Delaying having a child lets you focus on your career, your personal dreams. I was like that up to age 30. But then after 30, women often start to run into fertility problems, so when you know you want a child that's something to consider, as is discussed at this website:

Quote:
Age and fertility: Getting pregnant in your 30s | BabyCenter

There's a tremendous difference between your ability to get pregnant in your early versus your late 30s. As the decade progresses, a woman's fertility goes into free fall. That's why fertility experts caution women in their 30s not to wait too long, particularly if they want more than one child.
Uh, I should also mention that as men age, their chance of having children with birth defects goes up, too, due to their aging sperm-making cells. But I think this doesn't become so much of a problem until men are in their 40s. http://infertility.about.com/od/caus...agefertile.htm

If I ever choose to have children It'll be late on. When I've been heavily reckless for a decade or two.

Wow...even on an internet post you manage to curse like a middle age person. I wouldn't want you using foul language anyway...it would upset the order of my world.

Yes (sigh), foul language just doesn't roll easily off my tongue. But I gave it my all. I actually said damn!

But don't worry, duga...I didn't really say it out loud. It was just in my mind.
