I think Green Wing stands as a great example of what women can do with comedy.

Women comedians give women a bad name. Basically every female comedian I've ever seen on TV were terrible. But in everyday situations, loads of girls I know are absolutely hilarious.
I think men are better storytellers than women, so that transfers to the stage.

Sarah Millican is fantastic. She's one of the only female comedians I find amusing :/

but there are more famous male comedians than female ones on-screen or TV
