It can do though, you can't rule it out entirely. It obviously is just down to the individual, I'm not saying it's across the board.

The gay dude I lived with told me one time he only took it in the ass once. And that it felt like his intestines were being stabbed.

I've tried it with girls before (not receiver lol), just out of curiosity. Wasn't really hott for me, it was more the thought of just doing something different and wild that was most appealing.
