Not true. The graphics on both systems are pretty much identical. Any differences are so small that they aren't noticeable.

This should help clarify.
Xbox 360 vs. PS3 Graphics Comparison Round 5 - GameSpot.com

Every contrast I've seen graphics wise between the two machines always shows the 360 as being superior, despite the fact that you have to put two screens side by side to notice that superiority.

I love my PS3, but I suggest you don't buy either.
There will be some new consoles anytime soon, it's been quite a while since the PS3 and 360 were realeased. So buy a PS3 and 360 if the new console is there, it'll be a lot cheaper. Or wait a little longer and buy the new console :)

Not sure, but I'd say this year.

Hope not as that's more expense for me.

Doubt it.

You can never really be sure, but they PS3 and 360 have been around for some time, won't be long.

s_k 01-14-2012 07:34 PM

The rumours say late 2012.

I'd be interested to see where you heard that from, for the most part I'd heard much later then that.

With the announcement of the Xbox 360 S, Microsoft have said that they believe that the console is only mid-way through its life-cycle and will continue through 2015.[14][15][16] However, unnamed sources have claimed that Microsoft's next video game console is being slated for release as early as the 2013 holiday season.[17] Development of the system has also been implied by updates Microsoft employees have made to their resumes, which state that they were working on the next Xbox console.[18]
Xbox 360 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Though prior console generations have normally occurred in five year cycles, the transition from seventh to eighth generation units has lasted more than six years.[2] The transition is also unusual in that the prior generation's best-selling unit, the Wii, is the first to be replaced in the eighth generation.[2] Both Microsoft and Sony have stated they have begun looking at their next iteration of consoles, but consider themselves only halfway through a ten-year lifecycle for their current seventh-generation offerings.[4][5][6][7] The addition of motion controllers and camera-based controllers like Kinect and PlayStation Move are considered to have extended these systems' lifetimes.[8]
The Wii U is expected to be released this year, but no one cares about that.

There are actually a lot or rumours circulating around Microsoft unveiling a successor for the 360 at one of the major gaming conventions later this year. The PS3 was always slated for a full decade life cycle though, so I wouldn't expect a major announcement from Sony.

I figure it's 70/30 odds that we'll hear of a new MS console this year. It might not launch until later next year but I'd be more surprised if they remained silent.

I wouldn't put much stock into the rumors.

Here you have a "100% concrete, ultra high level" source saying both the new Xbox and PS would be announced at E3: http://games.ign.com/articles/121/1215948p1.html

...Annnnnnd 4 days later, Sony themselves denying said rumors: Sony Executive Says No PlayStation 4 at E3 2012 - PS3 News at IGN

Not saying you're wrong about your predictions by any means, just that the rumors are usually started by sites looking for a bit of advertising. :pssst:

I definitely agree with that sentiment. I'm just thinking with the hassles and issues MS had with the 360 launch and the entirety of their initial production run being essentially guaranteed to red ring eventually I'm a little more inclined to believe they'd be looking at launching a successor sooner than later. Especially where Sony has been very clear and adamant about their product life cycle, it would also allow MS to launch without any real competition both in the marketplace and on the horizon.

Personally I was intrigued by the Wii-U until Nintendo stated that their system would only support a single tablet. Now they're unsure whether or not that original limiting statement was accurate so... how are developers supposed to plan ahead and design products if the manufacturer can't be clear about the device? My first thoughts at seeing it were casual / social MP games where each player can have a unique personal screen on their tablet while a main game area for the group is displayed on the tv. Like the next step up from the GBA connectivity on the gamecube (anyone who played Pacman on the cube with a connected GBA knows exactly the kind of awesome I'm talking about).

So it sounds like the Xbox 720 is coming Fall 2013, and is "six times as powerful as current gen".

I'm gonna have to make up my mind whether I want to go Sony or Microsoft next gen (or both).

I think about this every time a new machine comes out, but always end up buying both anyway.
