Also, inane. The absolute cheek of you.

I think Vegangelica makes a very positive contribution to the forum, and I like the way that she demonstrates to newcomers that there`s a range of opinions here on MB. If she and the mods cross swords occasionally, I hope that`s something that everyone involved can live with, because imo that kind of difference of attitude shows that the forum is a healthy.

Can`t really top zevokes`s analogy, but I see the mods here as the hard-working, hard-boiled policemen; they sometimes have to deal with some pretty creepy guys, and perhaps their attitude comes across as brusque at times because of that. In this strained metaphor, Vegangelica is the social worker, grumbling about police brutality and telling the vagrant that there`s a refuge for him in the city. In fact both roles contribute to good of the community and both roles deserve respect. To me it`s not a case of who`s right or wrong; it`s about different opinions co-existing in the same place, complimenting each other by providing a broad spectrum of responses to a new kid in town.

I disagree with this analogy. No offense to you personally, but I think this perception of the mods demonstrates a lack of understanding of what we actually spend most of our time doing.

To me the mods are more like unpaid bartenders. We spend most of our time cleaning the bar (deleting spam) and serving people (updating avatars, approving threads, answering questions, etc.). Every once in a while we get a rowdy drunk in the bar who's either picking fights with people or making a mess or both. So we tell this person to knock it off. Sometimes they calm right down, sometimes they're belligerent drunks who get up in our faces. When that happens, rather than immediately throwing them out of the bar, we sometimes have a few harsh words for these belligerent ones in a final attempt to get them to back down. This is where Vegangelica comes in, not in the form of a social worker, but in the form of a busybody who just entered the room and has no idea what's going on but nevertheless decides to deliver some interminable, condescending sermon about how bartenders shouldn't be so mean to poor innocent patrons. It doesn't do anything to improve the mood in the bar, all it does is create drama. That's why it annoys the bartenders.

regardless of my personal opinions about this thread even existing, this is a solid analogy. it helps me understand. in light of it, i'm choosing to be a little less crazy about my feelings toward fetchers comment and apologizing for my over-reaction.

so, fetcher, just know that what you said was simply disheartening for me. there was no need for me to get up in arms about it, as no, i am not the "posting police." i was kind of affected by it (as i am by many things that don't seem like people helping people) and i let it get the best of me.

be well.

Wow! That`s difficult to argue with; a well-thought-out analogy that clarifies the situation, from a guy who actually knows what`s going on. Thanks for the explanation, and thanks for all that unpaid effort in serving drinks and clearing tables !

I must have missed something.

I'm a fan so I don't mind her lectures. Particularly if she writes one on anal beads.

I'm sure there's an angle where she could get into that. Product testing, animal cruelty, etc.

Out of context: You do know in hospitality being impolite to patrons is looked at as unprofessional, right? Whether they're being disorderly or not.

I understand that wasn't the point of what you posted. Thought I'd just throw it out there.

But hey, there were heaps of moments where I felt like throwing a beer at a customer's face.

Um, I dunno who that apology is directed at.

I think maybe in future you should try and be less emotional before you engage in musicbanter, I'm not going to lie, I'm pissed off at how judgemental everyone was towards my remark, I will try to be less rude and inane with my sociopathic ways in future . How was it disheartening? I could go into the funny picture thread and find way more offensive stuff that people find funny. Just because you don't find me funny doesn't mean you can say **** like that to me, be thankful I'm not easily pissed off.

LOL. Maybe things are different where you live, but I've never been to a bar where they pander to someone who is starting fights, they generally just toss them out the door instead of giving them multiple chances like we do here. And those are people who are actually getting paid to do the job, not volunteers like the mod team here.
