People Who Like American Football Are Boring

There are only three reasons that I can think of why anybody would want to watch such a mind-numbingly boring game as football.

1. You're a cretin who may or may not be able to count.

2. You're a generic tool who likes to do whatever society tells you to do and might as well have a microscopic focus group in your brain telling you what and what not to like.

3. Your only way to relate to your emotionally distant father was to sit next to him on the couch on Sundays desperately hoping that he would show you some sign of affection, even if it was just a simple grunt of approval after you'd made some slightly relevant observation about the Packers' defense.

So, quit being such *******s and start watching tennis.

U mad?

Cuthbert 10-26-2013 10:39 AM

Agreed.

Because in the olden days it was common for players to stomp their feet on each other's groins when they fell down. Now they wear cups and have rules and you can't even bring a knife onto the field. Damn family friendly bull**** is what it is.

djchameleon 10-26-2013 11:35 AM

It evolved from a combination of rugby and soccer. In the early days you couldn't pick up the ball or carry it but they changed the rules over time and just kept the same name.

Cuthbert 10-26-2013 11:36 AM

It's not even a sport tbh, it's got more adverts and posing than actual sport being played. It is to real football what WWE is to real wrestling :o:

American football :o:

Truth. Any sport where the championship is known more for the commercials than the actual game isn't a legitimate sport.

djchameleon 10-26-2013 11:41 AM

You are talking about that one SuperBowl game you watched. Ads are a pretty big deal for Superbowl games with companies paying millions of dollars for 30 second ad space. It is part of the tradition.

hip hop bunny hop 10-26-2013 11:43 AM

Well, reasons 1 & 2 are bizarre guilt by association nonsense along the lines of: football can be enjoyed by everyone, therefor only the lowest common denominator enjoy it, and those who do not enjoy are consequently above average individuals.

Reason 3 would only apply to women or gays. What straight guy wants emotional affectation from their father?

I've watched every Superbowl since the Patriots/Packers game back before they had Bradey and Favre walked all over them. The drama and the commercials are actually compelling. But trying to keep up with the rest of the season is awful.

Keeping up with the rest of the season is awesome if you have friends and play fantasy football. Otherwise, I would agree with you.

Reason 1 implies that football is a sport that can only be enjoyed by the mentally deficient. Anyone with half a brain will recognize it to be the tripe that it truly is. I'm guessing that you like football then? Figures.

Sounds like someone took five across the eye on a regular basis.

I hated football cuz my city is represented by the Lions. Then I won $600 in a fantasy football superbowl a couple of years back. Now I love it!

Why does that matter to you so much what other people outside of your country think about one sport?

Number 2 from Batty's first sport applies to all you soccer/football fans abroad.

I think it matters because most sports are enjoyed outside either their country of origin or the one acknowledged to be the best at it. Other than GAA and hurling. And camogie. And just about every indigineous Irish sport.

But baseball, basketball, American Football and so on are pretty much US-only interests, and few people outside of America care about them. I mean, come on: the "World Series"???

world survey by phone.

Last month a world-wide survey was conducted by the un. The only question asked was:

"would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world."

the survey was a huge failure because of the following:

1. In eastern europe they didn't know what "honest" meant.

2. In western europe they didn't know what "shortage" meant.

3. In africa they didn't know what "food" meant.

4. In china they didn't know what "opinion" meant.

5. In the middle east they didn't know what "solution" meant.

6. In south america they didn't know what "please" meant.

7. In the usa they didn't know what "the rest of the world" meant.

8. In the uk they hung up as soon as they heard the indian accent.

There is a thing called cultural differences and American Football is that good only to americans because of the rich history that it has here. Other countries don't want to play it because they don't share that same history. It's the same thing as Why does a large majority of American people hate/don't care about your version of football? It's not that great then by your logic.

Society is indeed telling you to like football that's why you have such rabid ****ing fans in football. Not because the game is in the least way exciting. It's just for the atomsphere of other people being there and being drunk.

But yet they play British football?

Americans don't care about British football because they're trapped in their little bubble, British football is massive worldwide.

World Cup final gets more viewers than the Olympics and Superbowl though.

So because Americans don't like it it's not so great? What about the rest of the world? Football is acknowledged as the single most popular sport in the world man! Just cos you Yanks don't get it --- and let's not forget, the odd time you do well you're all over the effing place about how great your team is --- doesn't make it no good. What arrogance!

Again, you know nothing about football and its history. I don't go to matches or drink, but I love it. It can be enjoyed without being drunk. The unpredictability of say a tiny team unexpectedly beating a world class one can't be overstated. It's a game in which anything can happen. Now, given that, I know next to nothing about American Football, and it's possible unexpected things can happen in the games of course, but it does seem to be almost choreographed to the nth degree, removing a lot of the spontanaeity from it you get from football here.

I think you're trying to bait someone into an argument but I'll bite. You think baseball and basketball are not played outside the US?? Ever heard of Mexican baseball or the Dominican Republic or Venezuela?? Ever noticed the enormous number of American baseball players who have Spanish surnames and who speak with Spanish accents???

And apparently, you've never heard of European basketball which has produced NBA stars like Petrovich, Divacs, Gasol, not to mention Tony Parker who was born in Bruges, Belgium and is a French citizen in case you didn't notice his French accent.

Getting back to baseball, let's not forget MLB players with names like Suzuki, Shinjo, Sasaki, Nomo, Matsui, and Yu Darvish (half-Japanese and half-Iranian).

Next, you'll be saying nobody cares about hockey outside the US.

But they're American teams. It's just stupid on every level.

The English Premier League is full of international players. It's an English league. If you win, you're the champions of England (technically Wales too since Swansea & Cardiff play in it).

If it was a true 'World Series' you should have the countries of the world play each other. But nobody gives enough of a fuck about baseball to field a team other than Americans
