Do you prefer X or Y?

Not the actual letters, dummy! Everyone knows Y is the man! Seriously, it's simple: a choice between two, which do you prefer and why? Start off with

SUMMER vs WINTER

Me, I'm a winter guy. Comes from being a nerd I guess. Whenever it was sunny my mam would be at me to go out and enjoy it but I wanted to skulk in my room, writing, reading, playing computer games or what have you. So I always felt guilty when the sun shone. Occasionally I would drag myself out just for form's sake, but I was never a big sun lover.

But when it was cold, or raining, or snowing, I had the excuse I needed to stay in my room and nobody would say anything to me. Also it just felt ... right, you know? I'd always rather be too cold than too warm. I also like the sense of peace and stillness you can get with winter; summer was always loud radios in the distance, kids playing and people fixing cars or whatever. Winter was more peaceful.

So, summer for you? Or winter? And why?

Wpnfire 02-27-2014 12:46 PM

What if we like/dislike the choices equally, can we start a new comparison?

YorkeDaddy 02-27-2014 12:46 PM

Summer for me. There's nothing quite like basking in the warmth in a nice, suburban neighborhood on a Summer day. I love the sound of lawnmowers all around and going out and playing basketball with my buds. The simplistic things give me the most joy.

Although I enjoy winter too, but not when it seemingly lasts forever like it has this year. It's 10 degrees and it's almost March :(

You can of course but I'd ask for this one to be given a chance first. If you are ambivalent towards the topic I'd say wait and don't post until a new one pops up. If you want to explain why you basically aren't bothered, well I guess nobody is stopping you doing that either.

Above all, winter. The extreme cold and snow does get tiring, but it's so much easier to bundle up in multiple layers to stay warm in the winter, than it is to strip nearly naked and stay cool in the hot, humid summers we get here.

GD 02-27-2014 01:16 PM

I'm really longing for summer right now, so summer all the way for me atm.

(Also, summers in Norway usually don't get unbearably hot)

Same, and for the same reasons. Winter is fun the first week and then it becomes nearly unbearable.

Janszoon 02-27-2014 01:21 PM

I'm more of a fall and spring guy honestly and I absolutely hate being hot and sweaty, but after this awful snowy, frigid winter we've had here I'm voting that I prefer summer. Ask me again in August and I'd probably vote winter.

Winter in Norway sounds like one of those days where you step outside your door feeling alright, and then you get hit in the face by the sheer coldness of the cold and make a sound like you've just been punched in the stomach.

Scarlett O'Hara 02-27-2014 03:28 PM

I like summer because I can wear **** all and show my curves. Winter is nice because you can cuddle up in bed and watch DVDs. I'm finally getting used to the weather in Auckland so other than the sweating and 2+ showers a day, I can manage.

butthead aka 216 02-27-2014 03:33 PM

winter - women w/ hairy legs, high heat bills, icy roads, frozen water pipes, shriveled balls

summer - loungin big dikc style, women in bikinis, beaches, sippin lemonade in the shade, outdoor concerts, baseball, swimmin, short shorts, etc

not even close

Yeah I wish women covered up and didn't shave their legs in the summer too.

Paul Smeenus 02-27-2014 06:17 PM

If we're talking chromosomes I definitely prefer x to y.

I am sad that winter is almost over. I am really going to miss it and will be bitching all summer over the heat. I hate sweating so much and stay indoors as much as possible with AC. I feel much more comfortable walking out in the cold, snow and even rainy days.

Same here. No matter how much deodorant I put on it always gets overpowered by a deluge of sweat on a hot summer day. And it gets humid as all **** here in Virginia so the sweat never evaporates.

James 02-28-2014 10:38 AM

I'm totally an Autumn guy so I would go for another letter of the alphabet, it's just so pretty!

Frownland 02-28-2014 11:02 AM

I like the winter a lot better because the heat makes me turn beet red and sweaty. In the winter I can just pile on clothes when I'm cold, plus when my body stiffens up in response to the weather I don't have to work out as much. In the summer I can only undress so far at my local playground.

Have you started making more jokes or have I just been somehow missing how hilarious you are?

Taxman 03-01-2014 10:44 AM

Winter is awful so I choose summer. Spring may be the best one, though, cos it is just so full of promise. But autumn is the most awful out of them. It's awful how everything dies an it gets darker and darker and I also always get very depressed in autumn & winter. **** them.

I love Autumn. The temperature is perfect and the red and gold leaves makes everything slightly surreal. Combine that with the whole Halloween atmosphere in October (I don't know if or how they do that kind of thing outside of America) and you get bottled awesome.

Plus you can dress up in your bat costume without anyone thinking you're a complete weirdo, because it's Halloween.

Well since Batman never wore assless chaps I still get a lot of weird looks.

Silenzio 03-01-2014 11:40 PM

I like spring, because you finally get to see the sun. The environment turns green, the world seems to be so much more pleasant.
Sadly, due to the anthropogenic global warming, those seasons won't be so noticeable anymore.
In the last years we've had snow in April, and in May temperatures around 29°C suddenly. Mad world!

When its autumn, it rains all the time and it's muddy and all, and if you life countryside like I do, darkness really gets on your nerves and depresses you.

Embrace the darkness.

I love the winter because of that. Having 4pm sunset times. You can sleep all day when you are sick and never see the sun if you get up at 4pm and go out to do shit.

In the bloody summer the stupid sun won't go away and stays up forever! hate it.

^ Clever!

Norway is notorious for its depressing winters, Taxman, and although it`s not in the same sub-zero league, London is pretty grim too, to be honest.

This is how a London winter used to work out for me: Go to work in the dark; sun comes out for a few hours while you`re working; go home in the dark. Snow and ice means waiting twice as long as usual for public transport to show up, and there is no way to get colder quicker than standing on a windy platform. Unwittingly you hunch up to conserve your dwindling body heat for half an hour or so and end up with muscle pain across your shoulders. And when you make it home, it`s too expensive to heat properly, so you spend the winter wearing an uncomfortable quantity of clothes as you scurry from one little island of warmth to another- the bed, the radiator, the kettle then back again - and if you complain about these circumstances, the previous generation will tell you how lucky you are because nobody these days gets the chilblanes that they used to suffer from.
So, in short, put me down as a summer guy!

Taxman isn't from Norway, he's from Finland. It is Briks and myself who are Norwegians.

Tbh, Finnish winters are probably colder than Norwegian ones on average.

Isbjørn 03-02-2014 10:02 AM

Our winters aren't all that cold except for in the northern half of the country, I think. They're mostly... inconsistent. I think the "cold winters" thing is mostly a reputation, but I haven't been in too many countries at winter.

I got a new one.

Do you prefer the Star Wars Movies or the Lord of the Rings movies?

And this is just about the movies, so ignore everything else outside of them. (NOTE: because I can not get a consistent answer from people I've asked as to whether the Hobbit may or may not be included in "the Lord of the Rings movies," we will not be including the split Hobbit movies in this discussion, so leave them out of your decision.)

I am a huge a sci-fi/supernatural-themed nerd, and I have always been more attracted to science fiction than fantasy.

BUT, I am also a huge fan of large scale epic battles like those in the Lord of the Rings movies, so this is a tough choice for me...but I choose Star Wars.

John Williams and lightsabers tip the scale for me.

Oh DJ. It's not healthy if you don't go out in the sun sometimes, you need vitamin D. You could take supplements though.

I may turn to dust though. Do you really want my death on your hands?

Also Star Wars vs. Lotr?

I have to go with the space opera. I am more of a sci-fi fan plus I have yet to finish Return of the King. Can't be arsed.

BB, I don't want you to die. Just promise me you will take a supplement!

Ditto, Star Wars is better because I love Sci Fi.

simplephysics 03-07-2014 12:11 AM

Anyone who has been stuck in the never ending polar vortex that has been ****ting all over the U.S. for months should agree that SUMMER IS INFINITELY BETTER. 90+ temperatures suck but that is nothing compared to the frozen wasteland that has become of the Midwest. I now have intense feelings of empathy for those living in places that are perpetually cold.

Also, Star Wars.
