If someone corrected me and said hey I want to be called this instead I'd do it. General things like some quiz on the Internet? Nah.

And there are quite a few people on tumblr who are just high school kids doing whatever everyone else is doing to fit in. I assume you've never seen the site I speak of because it's blatantly transparent that this is the way that so many people act with posts like 'if I'm a lesbian, how do I deal with being attracted to cis men?' and the like.

So my belief is that if I'm in a minority of people who likes avant garde music or identifies as someone who makes avant garde music, I wouldn't expect everyone to accommodate me whenever they mention music. This is an example, I recommend that you not take my word literally as it is an analogy. It really does help to grow a little skin and I'm not going to dance around certain words so that one or two people won't get offended by it. Ffs, do you think I'm a politician or something? I don't need your damned votes.

All in all you took me too seriously and entirely missed the point of both my original post that you responded to and the follow up.

idk, I've thought about it as a pronoun but that seems inherently objectifying- being grouped in with staplers and washing machines. I mean... maybe someone is okay with that? I read somewhere that it's not uncommon for people with autism to relate themselves to inanimate objects. ****, I've felt like like a slice of lasagna before- what with it's multiple layers and different sauces and fillings. Perhaps "it" could be claimed and redefined to include people too.

What if he or she refers to sex and not gender?

So you're prejudiced against appliances now? Toasters are people too.

Well how does that take the fun out of everything?

@batlord

Nope, I was at work. I know what you're thinking. I wasn't drunk. At the time, it seemed like a way to flirt. I'm not sure how flirting and relating to lasagna correlate but in my mind they did, for at least a moment. I don't know how well it went over with her but I did learn that comparing oneself to lasagna inevitably leads to awkward silence.

@frow

Is it really so hard to be considerate and change one word in a sentence to completely avoid any possibility of upsetting someone? Your apologies are insincere if you deliberately avoid or dismiss being respectful from the start.

But it's awkward. If I'm checking some fly honey out, and I turn to my homies to ask who the person is, and she's standing in a group of people, is it gonna make sense to point to her in the group and ask, "Who are they?"

Well my first post was kind of pointed towards misogyny and my follow up was extra harsh because of your comment about me being a jerk even if it's hard because of the outcome of my quiz. So a lot of that **** you're all grumpy about was largely a jokey and extremist version of how I really feel. You really are taking me too seriously by taking what I say too literally, man. The rest of your post is just an inflammatory overreaction that I don't really feel like inserting my logic into point by point.

Do you get this offended if someone mispronounces your name? **** dude, one word shouldn't be able to create this level of butthurt without it being a racial slur.

I editted my post because I wasn't sure what I was trying to say throughout most of it- I've been mentally out of shape for the past few days and wasn't making much sense. If there's anything to take away from this discussion it's that using they is better than using s/he because some people don't like being called she or he.

But it's not practical in everyday conversation. Sorry if it's not what you want to hear, but you can't just completely replace a word with a word that means something different.
