"Do you love this world?
Do you cherish your humble and silky life?
Do you adore the green grass, with its terror beneath?

Do you also hurry, half-dressed and barefoot, into the garden,
and softly,
and exclaiming of their dearness,
fill your arms with the white and pink flowers,

with their honeyed heaviness, their lush trembling,
their eagerness
to be wild and perfect for a moment, before they are
nothing, forever?"
-from Peonies by Mary Oliver

"I have isolated and defined at last the death-dealing streak in me: it is rebellion. I am wild and would be tame. (Meek.) I recapitulate our original sin: rebellion, which is nothing more lofty than resentment. I pray God to break me, sincerely. I have cut through all the layers and am down to the primordial core: strife, not love; thanatos, not eros. One can go no further. It is killing me, this primordial evil in me. God help me. Erbarme mich, mein Gott! Oder ich bin verloren."
-Philip K. Dick, The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick [22:9]

“Don’t allow yourself to be imprisoned by any affection. Preserve your solitude. If the day ever comes when a real friendship is bestowed on you there will be no conflict between your inner solitude and this friendship. On the contrary, that is the infallible sign by which you will know it.”
-Simone Weil, from First and Last Notebooks: Supernatural Knowledge

Oppress or be oppressed isn't exactly an inspiring message.

1. Workplace hierarchies can be argued to be oppression.

2. The context of that post implies that not having "big dreams and goals" leads to oppression by being at the bottom of a workplace hierarchy so that you should have "big dreams and goals" yourself which by implication means that you should strive to be an oppressor yourself by being higher in a workplace hierarchy.

DwnWthVwls 06-04-2020 08:39 PM

Nah, you just add in the oppression part cause of point 1.

John Connor 12-08-2020 10:23 AM

“It was incredible, she told herself, that this ravening monster, dripping blood from claws and teeth, that had arisen roaring in the night, could be the Humanity that had become her God. She had thought revenge and cruelty and slaughter to be the brood of Christian superstition, dead and buried under the new-born angel of light, and now it seemed that the monsters yet stirred and lived.”

Robert Hugh Benson, Lord of the World

When people think they possess the secret of a perfect social organization which makes evil impossible, they also think that they can use any means, including violence and deceit, in order to bring that organization into being. Politics then becomes a "secular religion" which operates under the illusion of creating paradise in this world.
Pope Saint John Paul II

The ****ing nerve of that pedophile.

John Connor 12-20-2020 04:17 AM

Precisely in an age when the inviolable rights of the person are solemnly proclaimed and the value of life is publicly affirmed, the very right to life is being denied or trampled upon, especially at the more significant moments of existence: the moment of birth and the moment of death.
Pope Saint John Paul II

The Batlord 12-20-2020 06:36 AM

I'll bet I know why the Pope wants more kids.
