Create the Subgenre!

A while ago I jokingly coined the term "Crooncore" for your oldie singers such as Bing Crosby, Dean Martin etc, while Batty rather unkindly (who said accurately??) :yikes: described Frownland's music as Pisscore. ;)

But I know a lot of you have, or know of, music out there that defies categorisation. So post something you think there is no subgenre for, and let's see if we can invent one. For fun only of course.

Frownland 12-11-2015 02:31 PM

Pisscore is actually already a genre: Pisscore music

innerspaceboy 12-11-2015 02:35 PM

I'd love to hear some creative genre names for the music of gravel-throated troubadour, Tom Waits.

Trollheart 12-11-2015 03:02 PM

Whiskeycore? Truthcore? Storycore? Waitscore?

Well I'll be related to a simian! I thought the Bat had made it up. :yikes: I suppose there's a shitcore too, is there?

grindy 12-11-2015 03:04 PM

So we just core everything or what?

Trollheart 12-11-2015 03:09 PM

If you want. Or you can think up something totally else. Depends on what's being listened to. Of which nobody has posted anything yet.

innerspaceboy 12-11-2015 04:28 PM

Waits' song and album titles might work as a genre name - I'm digging "Cemetery Polka" to describe his sound.

Also curious what we could call the art college music scene of the late 1980s. Most of it was filed under post-punk or art rock - everything from Remain in Light to the quirky fast-forward music videos of Dial-a-Song-era TMBG. I'd love to hear a more inventive name for the age of misfit rock.

Mondo Bungle 12-11-2015 04:34 PM

From Urban Dictionary:

Quote:

While it's popular to refer to various commercial nu metal and emo bands (as well as some non-commercial punk bands) as ****core, ****core as a genre is actually something quite different. It's a pretty self-deprecating and no-fi form of underground music (some of the only real underground music there is currently) that is deliberately awful and humorously pathetic, often created with (or with the help of) ****ty computer programs. There are ACTUALLY subgenres within ****core, ranging from ****grind to **** rap even, and the lyrics are often obsessed with coprophilia, gay sex, murder, suicide, pedophilia, Hitler, and anything else that can be blatantly offensive, stupid, politically incorrect, or all-around gross.
Examples of ****core include 50 Ways To Kill Me, Suicidal Rap Orgy, Hitlerbuttsecks, and Kitten Felcher (of which I am a member myself -- good for me, I get an air biscuit).

Black Francis 12-11-2015 05:52 PM

Dork wave.

Bands like Devo and They Might be giants could fall into this subgenre. Polysics too.

Tristan_Geoff 12-11-2015 06:17 PM

Electronic Doom/Stoner Metal could go as Drum 'n' Bake.

JGuy Grungeman 04-10-2016 03:41 PM

Accordion based alternative pop with retarded, raspy, Johnny Winter style vocals.

Troubacore.

bob_32_116 04-11-2016 01:39 AM

U2's most recent album could be described as Applecore.

Of course the Beatles invented that genre.

Love both of these!

Hmmm... too much of an overlap with "math rock".

Perhaps more of an Indeterminacy influence.

Already exists.

Blank. 06-07-2016 07:51 AM

I feel like it's almost impossible to make up a genre at this point.

Tristan_Geoff 06-07-2016 08:27 AM

Post-Apocalyptic Bubblegum Pop

It's a fusion between the likes of Christian Death and The Archies.

See, completely possible.

The Batlord 06-07-2016 11:07 AM

Rap death metal.

My thoughts exactly. Now I know what I'm doing for my next music project.

kibbeh 06-07-2016 11:35 AM

rap death metal sounds like it would sound like ****

Janszoon 06-07-2016 11:40 AM

Grindcore Bluegrass—basically what I want to hear is grindcore with bluegrass style banjo and fiddle. Maybe a sprinkling of bluegrass vocals too.

Grindgrass or bluecore?

Yeah, this is the closest thing I've been able to find, and it sounds like the worst Emmure song ever recorded.

Grindgrass is the hybrid that incorporates stoner metal too.

I think I prefer grindgrass.

The Batlord 06-07-2016 11:50 AM

Bluecore just sounds like another terrible metalcore sub-subgenre.

grindy 06-07-2016 11:51 AM

I'd like a small chamber orchestra to play Gorguts' Obscura.
I suppose it'll just sound like AvantProg though.

It sounds like it would be metalcore mixed with the cheesiest electric blooz of all time.

DeadChannel 06-07-2016 11:53 AM

I'm still holding out for an entirely acoustic grind record.
