Most Obscure: the Music Banter Challenge

Due to popular (and very vocal) demand, the focus of this thread has been changed.
It's no longer a game or competition, as people seem not to be interested in that.
So now it's just somewhere to post your obscure music.
Sorry to anyone who was enjoying the game, but the loudmouths have spoken and I'm too tired to argue with them anymore.
Frownland, I'm sure you'll be happy to do the honours and change the title to, I don't know: "Music Banter's Most Obscure" or something, and move this to the General Music sub-forum.

You should put a rule in that it has to have a certain amount of plays on Youtube or something because if not I could just keep posting Grime that I know nobody will have heard before.

Exo 04-15-2017 02:47 PM

A friend of mine had a band once and their sh*t is on YT and Bandcamp? Would they count?

Rules need to be clearer but I like the idea.

Trollheart 04-15-2017 05:51 PM

Well, you guys know how certain people hate rules...
:shycouch:
I would say that as long as it's a band/artist you know well (ie you're not just finding them on bandcamp or YT and playing one song) and let's say they need to have been making music publicly (whether signed, gigging locally or on YT/Soundcloud/Bandcamp) for, what, a year? Just to do away with bands only starting up that your friend's girlfriend's brother's sister gave you a recording of. How does that sound? I'm sure there are lots of you who have been following for years the music of bands or singers most of us might not even know. That's the kind of thing I'm looking at.

Whatever everyone's comfortable with.

You know what? **** it: I'm hardly one with eclectic music tastes, but I doubt any of you have heard these guys, so let me have at least one shot at the table.

The Stars of Heaven - Irish Country/Rock band (defunct)
Active from 1983-1990

Anyone know them? Heard of them?

The Identity Matrix 04-15-2017 05:57 PM

Never heard of them Trollheart.

I don't think this one will pass but I will give it a shot...

Terra Tenebrosa - The End is Mine to Ride

The Batlord 04-15-2017 06:04 PM

Russian tech thrash. Eat me, bitch.

rostasi 04-15-2017 06:35 PM

Not only do I know who Lenny White is (Twennynine),
but I met him when I saw Return to Forever over 40 years ago.
Venusian Summer is a much better album I think.

...and his playing is great on this tune that I posted here a while back:

Also, he's great on this Joe Henderson album too:

The Identity Matrix 04-15-2017 06:36 PM

Well Chula loses round one. I don' know any of the others though.

Mondo Bungle 04-15-2017 07:29 PM

I went blind trying to make sense of the guidelines

Trollheart 04-15-2017 07:35 PM

Everyone ignore rostasi; he's some sort of vampire who has wandered through time meeting every musician from Orpheus onwards, and he doesn't count. :)

It'll do that to ya.

Trollheart 04-15-2017 07:38 PM

OK guys I've updated the OP with the current hopefuls. You have 36 hours to disprove any of us.

I'll add more as we get them, and when someone has passed the deadline I'll show them in the OP as being on the leaderboard.

:D ...but I don't know the other three.
...and, to be honest, Lenny White is really well-known.
He's even won a few Grammys for his work thru the years.

Mondo Bungle 04-15-2017 07:43 PM

Terra Tenebrosa is fantastic and I think fairly acclaimed (at least by metal listeners). Aspid were also a wonderful gem.

As in I lose, or praise be to The Batlord for dropping knowledge you didn't know from the heavens?

Mondo Bungle 04-15-2017 07:57 PM

I know them and have given a moderate-small amount of listening. It's a gem that might get tossed around here and there by underground thrashholes

The Batlord 04-15-2017 08:03 PM

Durn.

The Batlord 04-15-2017 08:08 PM

Well here's Japanese experimental metal/experimental thrash band Doom. Not the punk Doom. The Japanese Doom. Unfortunately they're so obscure this song from their latest album is one of their only songs on Youtube.

The Identity Matrix 04-15-2017 08:12 PM

Dammit Mondo... Oh well...

I guess I will try again

Literally one of my favorite Japanese bands of all time

**** you god damn it!

Okay, Mondo doesn't listen to cheesy deathcore as far as I know. One of the only bands of their type I'll rep till I die.

Mondo Bungle 04-15-2017 08:42 PM

I knew them from you posting it before, but I don't think that should count, so you stumped me.

Here's some plain deathcore from like Brazil. When I found this song I thought it was really decent

Trollheart 04-15-2017 08:58 PM

I'll throw some rules at ya tomorrow (yay) but for now let's say only one vid per post, (no long lists all at once) and you can't post again till you've either had that artist make it onto the leaderboard or it's been challenged.

I wish you all good night from Ireland.

Hah. Got you on that one. I found them after hitting random on the metal archives last year. That album is boss though... I remember liking the latter portion of that album a little more than the first half though...

Eat ****, and I'm just surprised they let them on the Metal Archives considering their hate-on for metal- and deathcore.

Trashy NY metalcore/beatdown hardcore then.

I was just as surprised as you... They even labeled it Deathcore. They normally try to at least throw another genre in there just to justify it.

You got me on this song though...

The Birds are Spies, They Report to the Trees

awesome Emocore group

Mondo Bungle 04-15-2017 09:21 PM

^ one of the best

The Batlord 04-15-2017 09:28 PM

Mondo needs to leave.

Mondo Bungle 04-15-2017 09:30 PM

I wasn't planning on posting any songs. But these aren't even very obscure bands.

Mondo Bungle 04-15-2017 09:41 PM

I don't

Trollheart 04-16-2017 10:15 AM

Christ, guys! Such activity! Nobody know the old Stars then huh? How ironic, if the person who started the thread ended up being the one who won the thread, or something. Lots to update: open second tab and commence....

Edit: damn! I just broke my own rule didn't I? Disregard. Deleted.

I really wish I could participate in this. I have several thousand non-commercial and unreleased recordings from hundreds of artists. But none of this material is on the web for me to share here. The vast majority of these works have never been produced digitally.

Just as one example... here's Yvonne & Yvette - a 7" single of Siamese Twins singing gospel music.

Fun record! Their manager was the great gospel singer, Linda Hopkins, who just died earlier this week.
