MB Does D&D

and no, i don't mean drugs and do-rags.

here's a link to the site we would try it on first.

https://roll20.net/

has 3d dice, character sheets, voice chat, etc etc. all the essentials that will make it easy and fun to play.

i know absolutly nada about d&d except that it looks fun so if someone wiser than i wants to take the lead, go right ahead. aside from that just sign up pussies.

who is in?

- Batlord
- Ori
- Chio

There should be another site/program to do it on--anything that has group voice chat should suffice-- just in case roll20 doesn't work for some of us (I definitely couldn't use that on the laptop I'm on now, and I won't be able to use my pc until after this Thursday. And it's an older PC so it might have problems, I don't know yet)

edit: though I suppose as long as the DM were using roll20 (to keep track of everything more easily) it would work out fine even if the rest of us had to use discord or skype or whatever..? I don't know

oooh. ok. well lets see what else we can find.

it doesn't need to support voice chat, in the past Dwv, elph, bat and i have done voice chatting through the Twitch desktop app which works really well with minimal cpu requirements.

Chiomara 02-03-2018 11:19 AM

Ooh I see.

Hmmmm what should my character be hmmmm (half orc child maybe?)

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 02-03-2018 11:20 AM

thing about roll20 is it's free. not sure if there is other stuff out there that will do the same thing with no cost.

Akai 02-03-2018 11:21 AM

I'm down, haven't played D&D for time but i'll give it a go.

If you need something good for voice chat use Discord or TS3.

The Batlord 02-03-2018 11:21 AM

Yeah Twitch has been the least CPU intensive so far, but... I don't even know if I can run that on a Chromebook. It's probs gonna be a couple weeks before I can get my computer back up and running.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 02-03-2018 11:21 AM

oh and also yeah, i dont think we would all need to be in the roll20 game. seems like as long as we can talk we make it work.

batlord's computer couldn't handle discord

i kid you not

Chiomara 02-03-2018 11:22 AM

OK good, and yeah same for me, I'll need a couple weeks to get settled into the new place ideally. Twitch sounds fine.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 02-03-2018 11:24 AM

cool. we'll leave things a little up in the air for now and if people just want to update once they're able to participate we can look to nail down an actual date and time. i know there will be a few time zones to consider but i think we should be able to make it work fairly easily.

Chiomara 02-03-2018 11:24 AM

There's plenty of things to brainstorm in the meantime. I want this to be as stupid as possible.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 02-03-2018 11:26 AM

i don't know if you have experienced drunk batlord but...

stupid will be an understatement

*queue that drunk rambling clip about sarah kerrigan from his starcraft video*

WWWP 02-03-2018 11:27 AM

Count me in! I have never played but am eager to learn!

Chiomara 02-03-2018 11:32 AM

I'll have a large supply of boxed wine ready. (None of you have met drunk chio before)

OccultHawk 02-03-2018 11:33 AM

I want to play, please

Pretty sure it was just that my internet connection is **** and couldn't do League of Legends and Discord at the same time without lag. I mean can your comp do StarCraft 2? Cause mine can.

It was in two videos because I was so drunk that I went on the same rant in both videos at the same points. Somewhere early on right before the actual mission starts. At least in the first video it's around the 2:00 mark, right after I loudly blow my nose with an already used tissue.

Very long time since I played a cheap knock-off version of this called Tunnels and Trolls, but it's the same basic idea. I guess if you don't have anyone to do Gamemaster at the moment I can step up. Other than that, count me in as a character.

OccultHawk 02-03-2018 12:58 PM

Ori’s running this outfit

I checked all the posts and nobody, including him, said that. But if he is, fine. I don't mind. I just didn't see anyone stepping up to be GM so said I'd throw my arrow-shot hat into the ring.

Cuthbert 02-03-2018 01:07 PM

Sounds confusing.

If you've never played RPG (role playing games) before, it can be. But it's actually easy enough to get the hang of. And TMK it doesn't require speed on the keyboard or mouse, a good eye or anything like in normal computer games. It's all decided on rolls of the dice as per the attributes your character has.
From what I remember, anyway.

I might have played one on the Playstation but not on PC.

Dunno what TMK is.

Will keep an eye on the thread.

The Batlord 02-03-2018 01:19 PM

Sounds like if you have one or two veterans they can work the rest of the people through it so that it can run reasonably smoothly, and then the shared camaraderie will do the rest. I imagine that after a game or two I'd be willing to throw in as a DM, but I just know nothing to feel confident that I'd be suitable.

We're talking about tabletop RPG's though. Dungeons & Dragons ****. It's not a game that has any connection to video game RPG's other than that the video games are descended from tabletop games.

OccultHawk 02-03-2018 01:21 PM

Ori’s the best writer

This is a spin-off of his thread

No one needs dice and **** except Ori if he wants them

It’s his world

WTF is wrong with everyone

The game literally needs dice, whether they be real or virtual.

All you have to do is make **** up

Ori is by far the best - so good that’s settled

I have no idea what you're on about tbh mate. Never heard of Dungeons & Dragons.

I'll need to see it being played, will pay attention to the thread.

I know how to play. The dungeon master says ok your deal is this and that what do you do then he rolls dice and checks a chart leans back and tells you the story until you make another decision.

Holy **** how can anyone not have ever heard of D&D?! I didn't even know that people didn't know about it. Along with Lord of the Rings it's basically the cornerstone of Western fantasy nerd culture.

So then you know that we need dice. We're not talking just about a goofy thread. We're talking about playing an actual tabletop RPG.

Dude only the dungeon master has to get it. You pretend you’re a cleric or a magic maker and that’s all you need to know. Ori says ok you got a magic wand and you’re walking in a forest and you hear a lady screaming it sounds like it’s coming from that cave. What do you do?

He needs dice. Or just his pretend dice. I just need to relax and enjoy the good times!

We're talking about a formal D&D game though. Made up dice would ruin the experience. I certainly would be much less onboard if this weren't a legit game.
