David Johansen was an underground Alternative Rock Singer with New York Dolls before hitting it big with the poppy Hot Hot Hot as Buxter Poindexter.

That's fair. A lot more people were into his Buster persona than were into the New York Dolls.

Before Iggy Pop gained fame as a solo artist, and a before that as a member of The Stooges, he was in a band called 'The Iguanas' where he played drums.

After The Iguanas, he went on to play drums for another band called 'The Prime Movers Blues Band' where his band mates gave him the nickname of "Iggy" due to him previously playing in The Iguanas.

The lead singer, the piano player, and the drummer are still out there together to this day.

Interesting. I remember an R&B vocal group called Hot that had a hit with a song called "Angel In Your Arms" in the 70's. They must have fallen on hard because they also appeared on Star Search some time after thay had that hit.
