Music on the Radio

Just a general question for music lovers out there.

Are you satisfied with the music being played on the radio today? Do you think record label exec's do a good job finding music for us listeners OR do you think they missed the mark? If you had the power, would you choose better music????

Fenixpunk 09-21-2005 04:54 PM

there are a couple good stations but the majority out there is the same crap played over and over again. its pretty pathetic with the amount of music available that you hear the same song 3 times an hour.

SharksAndDanger 09-21-2005 09:19 PM

yeah, the radio ruined system of a down- question for me

boo boo 09-22-2005 12:30 AM

The only radio i ever listen to is classic rock radio. ;)

As far as modern music is concerned, a lot of the best bands out there today are rarely heard, like the mars volta, sigur ros, buckethead, etc...

Merkaba 09-22-2005 02:56 AM

I dislike radio. Too much of this "we won't play songs longer than 4 minutes because people switch off". We have one good rock station, but even that can be pretty weak with songs by nickelback and such being frequently played.

I often have an urge to start a radio station, purely for the minority of people who, no matter how long the song goes for, still appreciate what they hear. And I wouldn't play too much mainstream stuff, not because I'm a "rebel", but because you should never judge a book by it's cover. Just because it ain't well known, doesn't mean it ain't something spectacular.

When Mark & Lard split up & John Peel died I gave up bothering with the radio

ArtistInTheAmbulance 09-22-2005 01:24 PM

There's no point in listening to the radio in my area. So effing horrible, but sadly tis what most people seem to listen to... Lame.

Expletive Deleted 09-24-2005 05:56 PM

NPR and online are good, but commercial radio is just horrible. Top 40, Alternative, Classic, all of it.

Animal Mother 09-25-2005 11:34 AM

the station i listen to are great 1 station they repeat alot of there songs but theyre good jack fm. well they play a good variety.

fidelityfiend 09-26-2005 02:49 PM

All commercial radio blows. Clearchannel and Infinity own 90% of the stations in the U.S. and they have a crappy repetitive playlist for each genre in each marketplace. The only radio I listen to now is NPR or our local community radio www.wmnf.org - they are commercial free and have very eclectic programming. You can listen online as well.

I like to hear rock n roll music for the most, but they always like to pick rap music. :sign: I always press my buttons to find a better music and I can't find a good one. If I had my favorite album, I would listen to it more than the radio, since they think rap is hotter than rock music. To me, rock n roll music is the best in the world today.

dog 09-27-2005 07:30 AM

radio music is crap.

Kempson 09-27-2005 03:56 PM

The radio does suck. I don't rely on other people to choose my music for me, I chose it myself.

trijicon 10-01-2005 12:40 PM

Wow, seems like a lot of people aren't too happy with the radio music?

Are you?

Sneer 10-01-2005 05:04 PM

90% of radio is drivel

AprilMay 10-02-2005 04:19 AM

The local radio where I live is appauling, they only play the most commercial music and their idea of alternative is The Darkness, and they only play them because they are from the area. Radio 1 isn't too bad in the evenings, though I do hate the way that they have pushed Steve Lamaq back to 9 o'clock so I have to endure 2 hours of Zane Lowe first and the lack of John Peel just upsets me.

dojo 10-21-2005 02:25 PM

I think most radio stations just try to make people stupid and listen to stupid music :(

So no, I don't like what's on the radio.

My local radio stations idea of indie is playing Suedehead by Morrissey once every 4 days

I just got a new mp3 player and it's nice cause it's got radio on it also.

riseagainstrocks 10-21-2005 03:55 PM

I only listen to NPR and local PR really. I am a news geek I admit it. But commercial radio, when they get around to playing music, runs on a 20-30 song rotation with the "popular" songs getting more and more air time. Every once and awhile they play some Foo Fighters which is one of the few marketable bands I like. But the last time i listened to commercial radio for more than 10 minutes of my own free will was close to 2 years ago.

how is that a question?

tyler 10-21-2005 04:03 PM

Do you surf the net to feel smart or for fun guy.

riseagainstrocks 10-21-2005 04:05 PM

both actually. I don't feel that typing is that hard, especially on a forum where errors such as adding a "?" to the end of a sentence when it doesn't belong there are very, very correctable.

I don't see how correcting someone counts as being a ****.

tyler 10-21-2005 05:36 PM

None of us are writing a paper for school here. Just relax and worry about yourself.

ladyluckrules 10-22-2005 06:11 PM

I get extremely frustrated with the radio, It's either Chris Moyles burping then playing The Streets as the new weekend anthem on Radio 1, Terry Wogan chuckling about famous accidents with tea towels or some sub-standard 'alternative' station that keeps 'boulevard of broken dreams' and 'wake me up when september ends' as fillers between each blink 182 song so that kerrang kids can share a moment of self reflection whilst they wank to a picture of Dougie from Mcfly.

Up with radio piracy!

Seeking 10-22-2005 08:25 PM

My problem with radio is that they tend to play the same song selection day after day after day.

Merkaba 10-22-2005 09:51 PM

That is applicable over here. The rock station over here does a rock-revamp every two months.

So other than the latest singles that come out from time to time, we listen to the same songs day in day out until they have a revamp...Which usually just brings back the same songs from the revamp before last.

Scarlett O'Hara 10-25-2005 03:58 AM

This somes up my thoughts of the radio:

IndiElectronica 10-25-2005 10:56 AM

hated commericial radio for many, many years... finally did something about it and started my own station! It's much easier than you think - so get off your arses and do something about it! :)

tyler 10-25-2005 12:07 PM

Right on, I just might get off my arse and do the same very soon.

THE GOLDEN STRING 10-25-2005 12:12 PM

demon hunter 10-28-2005 09:42 AM

The radio is cool to listen to sometimes. But a lot of times I find myself switching b/c the same songs are being played over and over or there's nothing good on.

CoolDood 10-30-2005 01:40 AM

help

speaking of music on the radio, there this song i always hear but don't know the name or Artist. It's rap and has a police siren in the beginning of it. it is not by blak eyed peas.

i am not emo 10-30-2005 05:36 AM

^ just to be really off topic...

When it comes to the radio, im the kind of person that will put up with listening to it if its all that's there, just because i like to have some sort of music playing somewhere. I'd always make the extra trip to fetch a cd if i had the option though...
