Default Concerts You Went To Because An SO liked the musical act

SO, of course, stands for "significant other".

I went to see John Denver because the woman who later became Mrs. Drjohnrock wanted to see him. That was not a performer I would have seen on my own. But there were a couple of really good moments, one being a cover of Guy Clark's "Homegrown Tomatoes", a song that's hard to mess up, and
"Seasons Of The Heart", a Denver original. The latter tune is about the breakup of a relationship that's sad but not bitter or accusatory ("I wouldn't try to change you/there's no one that's to blame). Denver sang the song a cappella and earned a standing ovatation from the crowd--including me.

I posted this topic on another message board and got some interesting replies. I look forward to reading the replies here.

The only shows I've attended with a SO, were shows where both of us wanted to see the musical act or I wanted to go and invited my SO to join me.

Can't think of a single time where I went to a show because my SO wanted to go and I went along without having any interest in the musical act.

I went to see Graveyard & Mastodon and the only reason my SO came with was because Primus was playing as well.

I still don't entirely understand Primus. Not sure I ever will lol. It's rare I listen to a song of theirs alone.

Nice to see you posting again.

I can relate to not being able to get into Primus. I saw them open for TAD back in the early 90's and couldn't understand why they were getting the attention that they were at that time. Their music just doesn't interest me in any way.

Glad to see you're still around!

Yeah they're kinda just SILLY to me. Definitely talented, but very goofy.
I think it's their bass lines, which I know is also why people like them so much.

In the mid 2000s there was a bit of a surf rock revival, a garage rock revival and in general all the basic forms of rock 'n' roll were in vogue. My girlfriend at the time was really into it and I got dragged to a thousand gigs of local and visiting US bands doing that stuff. The gigs were always great fun, no complaints, but never anything that sticks in the memory. Maybe The King Khan & BBQ Show cause they liked to provoke the audience, but their music was just like everybody else's.

With The King Khan & BBQ Show I also had a friend who had a radio show at one of the college radio stations and he worshiped them. And, the good sport that I was, I kinda went along with it, saying "yeah, wow, it rocks" when he played another song that sounded like all the other songs. Good, simple times...

Jimi Hendrix supposedly once said "May you never hear surf music again." Well, it's probably going to be a long time before it becomes extinct, if it ever does.

The last concert i saw before COVID hit was Olivia Jean. Her music is an interesting blend of garage rock, punk and surf. The surf is an ingredient in the sound mix but doesn't dominate. She did an interview not too long ago where she said one of the high points of her music career was meeting two of the original members of The Surfaris.

A lot of my early concerts were due to my mom's interest in the singers. I was almost ten years old when the person on the stage was finally a singer that I wanted to see: Tanya Tucker.

God bless you and the lady legend and my mom always!!!
