LedZepStu whether intentionaly or not pointed out that musical trends differ geographicaly, whats more popular somewhere in the world could be compleatly resented elsewhere, if your looking at it on a global scale then id probably say Hip Hop but Rock is starting to make its way back into the *shudders* Mainstream even if it is a generic form of the original.

And Indie is actualy a recognised genre in the music industry, whether you want to consider it one or not, it is a recognised genre.

A recognized genre in the music industry? What the **** are you talking about? The only people who recognize indie as a genre are idiots and NME-reading Brits.

It's a type of record label, no more no less.

I've said this so many times on so many different boards, but I'll say it here again:

INDIE IS NOT A GENRE

So would everybody please stop treating it like one?

And while I prefer Rock, Hip Hop is obviously more popular.

I think you'll find it is. Go to any CD shop, record shop, online sites, and to find the smiths you'll have to look under 'indie' therefore indie is a genre..If you think it is, it must be, because youtalk out your crack most of the time..

I would say indies the next big thing, or what people perceive to be indie, even though it resembeles more pop/rock to be honest- Franz ferdidand, kasier cheifs, kasabian, artic monkeys, etc

Your logic astounds me.

It makes sense that a record store would have an indie section, because indie is any band on an independent label, but that DOESN'T make it a genre.

But go ahead, tell me, what makes a band indie?

though not a genre specifically it is regarded as a style and lifestyle- in britian anyway. these "idiots" are the guys that actually buy the records. do you really care that much anyway? genre's are a waste of time.

I guess here in America we know what the fuck we're talking about.

And most bands I see considered "indie" in the UK are on major labels, anyway.

its the same here. indie is not only a lifestyle...but a genre of music, and one that is pretty distinct in sound. i agree that genre's are a waste of time, but without genres....where would we get our social cliques?
