may i? indie is a genre of music generally played by average to low talented musicians, the music itself is rarely interesting and most of the time quite boring. the reason is because the bands playing it are not very good for the most part. it's a genre because averagely talented musicians play average music and that's the common denominator to the majority of indie bands and music, the style of music is very similar ( =boring ), from the arcade fire ( oddly a very good band ) through the pavement, B&S, broken social scene, echo and the bunnymen, xiu xiu, mogwai , neutral milk hotel, tv on the radio and many others....there are of course subgenres ( as in any genre ) such as indie-pop, indie-rock, indie-electro,and even though their sound may vary, it's still mostly average and boring.......thus the equasion has been proven.
