I have finally (sort of ) made my descision.

#1) The White Stripes, solid songwriting and excellent variety. I feel that they are worthy of all the praise they have gotten critically however, I do NOT feel that they have made their masterpiece yet.

#2) Death From Above 1979. Europe is freaking out about these guys. Typical Canadian band that has to go elsewhere in order to further their career. This album may not be much more than indie buzz right now but I would bet a week's salary that their next album is going to be HUGE!!!

on the contrary, i dont think there's anything better then a loud blast of the DFA'79 album

Explosions in the Sky probably.

They're pretty groovy.

i dunno, i suppose they're allright to see live, but i definetly wouldn't say they're the best band in the last 5 years, especially considering the likes of the white stripes, queens of the stone age, the mars volta, franz ferdinand, the arcade fire, coldplay...

It is not a preference, I am Canadian and they are little more than a band that shows up every year or so to entertain 5000 people. They really don't add up to much here

they're on fire in europe, in fact i think they could even pack an arena in croatia, and that's saying something...

In that case, EitS are infinitely better than every single band you mentioned. The only band that even comes relatively close is The Arcade Fire, but I still wouldn't consider them good enough to even make an album that could match the brilliance of How Strange, Innocence.

However, I still wouldn't call EitS the best band of the past 5 years, I was just commenting that I was going to see them live. I'd pick Broken Social Scene or Mono.

That's probably because Canada has some of the best bands in the world right now. Constellation Records alone is enough to beat out just about every other nation.

Is that supporting Four Tet? If so, should be a good show.

No, its The Camden String Quarter and Lichens supporting EitS. Would've preferred to have seen them with Wilderness as the opening act, but oh well.

franscar 12-16-2005 05:23 PM

Either way, it's in London. And me and London don't mix well.

newcomer alert!!!

Hello i am a newcomer to this site, so be nice:)

the best artist from the past 5 years is a hard question. I would have said Doves, because they are an amazing band, and perfect live, but Jack Johnson??? what a god he is, the next Bob Dylan
