Not to mention that the Drift is probably the worst place to start with him! It's super experimental, a very scary listen, and not necessarily representative of his career as a whole. Honestly, I'd listen to his first four studio albums first, then Climate of Hunter (83), then Tilt (95), where his experimental side shows through first, and then the Drift (06).

I'd go with Rickenbacker's advice on this one. Brilliant as the Drift is, it's no starting point. Get hold of all his first four solo albums, set a day aside and listen to them all one after the other - they're all around the half-hour mark when it comes to running time, so it won't be that time-consuming.

Another good gateway into Walker's later, avante-garde stuff is the last ever Walker Brothers album Nite Flights. The first four tracks were written by Scott, and they really are quite something. The rest of the album's rubbish, but it's worth it for those first four songs.

Good call. The title track on Nite Flights is tops.
