littleknowitall 01-01-2006 01:02 PM

children of bodoms cover of hellion by wasp and aces high were both terrible.
the murderdolls - white wedding

half_baked87 01-01-2006 01:06 PM

any cover marilyn manson has ever done has raped the song. and rise against covering "anyway you want it" or whatever at the end of revolutions per minute, what the fizzle? slayer also ruined some good minor threat songs.

mosesandtherubberducky 01-01-2006 01:09 PM

Van Halen did some alright covers. They didn't butcher the songs but they added their Phase90 touch.

Sabgoat 01-01-2006 05:16 PM

i personally think tori amos ruins songs...
when i heard her verison of thank you by led zeppelin
i wanted to track her down and beat her up she killed that song.. its like she really did try her hardest to ruin that song.. and she did she ****ing murdered it and got away with it too.. ****ing moron!

but i think Avil whatever she is.. her verison of knocking on heavens door ruled.. i don't listen to her music.. i don't even know her full name haha.. anyways.. but i thought GNR's was amazing but man she did a very unexpected good job with that song.. and bob dylan i thought his verison being the first was ****.. i hated it..

i like The Ataris verison of i'll remember you.. done by skid row.. i think skid rows is amazing.. but Ataris there verison is so different not really sure if it killed the first but its at least just as good.. but in different ways for sure..

I agree with whoever said that at least Mansons covers aren't your same generic identical copy of the original.

I agree, I love his covers of Tainted Love and Sweet Dreams, they're eerie and sexy.

I like Tori, she has a great voice. Her songs have that powerful feeling, as if it's risky to listen to her.

Cover artists they try to make the song their own, which can leave you disappointed, as you were, for Amos and Zeppelin may as well be from two different worlds. And when you love the original, it can almost be a sin for someone else to come along and attempt a change.

Urban Hat€monger ? 01-01-2006 08:40 PM

I`ve got the Prodigy covering Ghost Town by The Specials somewhere & it`s bloody awful.

Of course it didn`t help that instead of getting someone to sing it they just replaced the vocals with a low farting noise instead.

TheBig3 01-01-2006 08:43 PM

I think tori did a great job with "Real Men" "Smells like teen spirit" and "Raining Blood"

Merkaba 01-01-2006 09:00 PM

Touche. I also thought the Teen Spirit song was very good.

Different. But very good. She also did a good job of Killing Me Softly.

Theres so many, I'll try to bring up as many as I can;

Korn - yeah you know which song...
APC - Imagine, When The Levee Breaks
Counting Crows - Big Yellow Taxi
Limp Biscuit - Behind Blue Eyes
Kid Rock - Feel Like Makin Love
William Shatner - Lucy In The Sky
Madonna - American Pie
Dolly Parton - Stairway To Heaven
Michael Bolton - Dock Of The Bay
Sheryl Crow - Sweet Child O' Mine
Hillary Duff - My Generation
Hootie and the BlowmeFish - Hey, Hey, What Can I Do
Cindi Laupher - What's Goin On

Yeah, I'm sure I'll think of tons more after I post this but those all suck, but they still don't make me hate the original version though...

:( Dylan's version rules, especially live, he changes the lyrics for the better to. The studio lyrics are:

Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore.
It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door.

The live lyrics are so good:

Mama wipe the blood off of my face
I can't see through it anymore.
I need someone to talk to and a new hiding place,
I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door.

How dare you badmouth dylan...

For one think, Kid Rock didn't do a bad job covering Bad Companey because they suck int he first place.

Secondly, the songs you listed, come on now, lets be serious for a minute, I think its time we spoke.

Korns version - They replaced the funk flicks with distored chords adding a more ominous sense of the oncoming march that was the resistance to conformity. Not that flyods version didn't do it justice, but Korn looked at the song in general, what it said, what it meant to everyone who sang that refrain and they said "this music compliments that mood better" and they were right as far as I was concered.

APC- When the levee breaks, Ill give you that, they just did it their way I don't think they killed it though. But Imagine? Oh come on, Lennon's version had music so they'd play it on the radio, the music adds nothing to that song. If the words were diffrent, it would be a **** song. He did that intentionally to make people focus on the words, theres no way in **** that APC made worse music. APC like Korn was thinking of mood. The words are the same so theres no lack of power there, but APC added a post-apocalyptic feel to the words, and it had an immediacy that was pertinant to the time period. I think its much much better.

Counting Crows - On what grounds I ask. Thiers was a richer fuller song. I think CC's do a great version of everything they cover. Try their Grateful Dead cover "Friend of the Devil." The crows, out of all the bands you listed are completly about music, no image, no magazine interviews. They did a damn nice version of that song, and I think its better because they don't have "humerous" vocal flutterings that detract from the emotion of the song.

Shattner - Did you really even consider anything he's done as a serious attempt to create a better song. Shatter is funny, and any song he touches is ****ing gold. Chastising this for being bad is like yelling at someone when you didn't get the joke. You look like an ass for even taking it seriously.

i agree with you on the limp bizkit one for sure. but i didn't mind the korn cover, and i REALLY liked the APC cover of imagine, so dark. i dunno if its been mentioned yet i havent scrolled though the whole thing, but RATM's enitre renegades album was pretty solid. the cypress hill cover made me cream my jeans the first time i hear it.

Sabgoat 01-02-2006 08:32 AM

i think dylan is a awesome writer.. and as one (but not a good one) i respect him for it.. he is at the top on my list.. but i dunno i like a few of his songs.. i like that movie he was in too.. id on't remember the name of it at the moment tho.. anyways whatever.. but i dunno i thought he sang it like crap... just my opinion not that it matters hahah

You know thats right. When he says "Didn't have to blast him but I did anyway, ha ha ha young punk had to pay" theres such a vicious eveil in his voice thats absolute gold. I havn't heard that much posion in a mans voice since Axl did the second song off appetite I forget the name but the one where he says "turn around bitch I gat a use for you". Venom like that ain't seen much round these parts.

Yes - America
Nirvana - Pretty much every cover they have done

And just about every damn song Elvis did was a cover.

Nirvana's covers are pretty good, and they're usually of some great bands, but I've always found that when I went and listened to the original, I almost always liked it better. All the Meat Puppets versions I think are more compelling than the Nirvana covers, I like the Vaselines' version of Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam better, although that's really the only Vaselines song I'm very particular to, and there's other stuff too. Their cover of "Here She Comes Now" is pretty uninspired, "Turnaround" is an ok version of a not so good song, and I don't really like their cover of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night."

"Love Buzz," on the other hand, is one of my favorite Nirvana songs.

I've said it to much and im getting sick of it.
The Bizkit cover wasn't bad.
It sounded the same.
The only reason it "sucked so much"
Is because you all hate the band.
Which is a complete bullshit reason.

Although a band may start a song, it doesn't mean that they were the reason that the song is now well known or popular!!!:usehead: The Beatles wrote a great song, but as far as making it successful and well known in the music scene, Elton John pretty much owns it!!!Nobody really cared as much for that song before Elton John did it and no offense to The Beatles whatsoever, but Elton John made that song a much better one!!!

...For me, there "White Album(s)" show the true greatness of the band, without a doubt!!!;)

well 311 did the cure's love song and made it popular but who's song do we call it. that's right the cure's because no matter who made the song popular it is still the writer's song. And up until now i was not even aware of the fact that elton john sang that song much less made it popular. So lucy in the sky with diamonds remains the beatles though it may have been covered by elton john it is theirs. End of story.

Kashmir86 01-02-2006 08:01 PM

I really like 311's cover of love song. Partially becuase I prefer the sound of 311 better I'm sure.

TheBig3 01-03-2006 12:30 AM

Yeah to quote Patton Oswald, "The Cure made music for fat pasty overweight theater majors"

311's a little more jack of all trades than the cure.

They both recorded it on their albums!!!:finger: I don't care who's you prefer or know the most!!! They both own it forever because music lasts way longer than many artists/bands do!!!Just think about all of the greats that have died and we are still listening to many years later!!!Good music lasts forever and so will the song for both Elton John and The Beatles!!!Elton John recorded the song and it is forever tattooed into his albums as well as legacy!!!The Beatles were the original, although both bands have that song that people will hear and judge by their own opinions for many years to come!!!They will decide which one they like better or thought was better!!!Popularity doesn't make a song good, the artist(s) do!!!Here's something ya gotta learn man, many bands cover and record other bands songs each day!!!Obviously they're not all in jail for playing/recording another bands song, understand!!!:bonkhead: Then THAT'S the End of the Story, period!!!
