Covering Kills

What cover songs have killed an original song that you used to love, but now hate because of this?

For me:

Joan Jett - I Love Rock And Roll covered by Britney Spears
Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall Pt2 covered by Korn

bungalow 12-30-2005 07:39 PM

Avril Lavinge- Chop Suey

AND KASHMIR: THER IS NO NEED FOR TO YOU TO POST HERE...I'LL ANSWER FOR YOU

KORN: ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL

please.....spare us from another one of your ****ing classic rock was ruined by a new band rants

Scarlett O'Hara 12-30-2005 07:41 PM

You're ****ing kidding me? She did not...

That's sick.

She ruined Bob Dylans - Knocking On Heavens Door too.

sleepy jack 12-30-2005 07:47 PM

I liked her cover of knocking on heavens door she has a good voice and that cover did more justice then guns and roses.

I also agree avril murdered chop suey.

Scarlett O'Hara 12-30-2005 07:55 PM

I don't think either covered it.

bungalow 12-30-2005 07:56 PM

^????
Covered what.
Guns N Roses covered Knockin on Heavens Door....if thats what your talkin about

Scarlett O'Hara 12-30-2005 08:02 PM

I mean I don't think Avril or Axl covered it well at all.

Merkaba 12-30-2005 08:11 PM

Spiderbait - Black Betty

Haha got to agree with that Britney cover too Vanilla. Twas awful

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-30-2005 08:15 PM

It`s not funny or clever anymore , stop doing it.

sleepy jack 12-30-2005 08:23 PM

How can you say that? The Spiderbait cover is 100% improved on the Ram Jam version plus you can't go far wrong with a video of the calibre that accompanied it.

You sir, need looking at:D

TheBig3 12-31-2005 12:00 AM

pop punkers covering rap. Hey we're white and wear tube socks up to our knee's. But we'll sing rap cause thats what you'll least expect.

No, thats what we most expect (simple plan, im looking at you). Want to suprise me? Write something that doesn't blow.

Also, folkies covering anything by another folie band. Howie Day, Ryan Carcrashia (sp?), insert WASPy name, do not cover any thing by DMB, U2, Guster, OAR, Dispatch, Tom Petty, or Sublime....eeeeeeever.

sleepy jack 12-31-2005 12:02 AM

Speaking of simple plan they're covers of addicted to oi! and american jesus we're pathetic.

Hahaha......anyways
I dont like Howie Day;s cover of Help!....cause it sucks
And the Black Crows absolutely slaughtered Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds.
The rest of the songs on the I Am Sam soundtrack are swell though

ArtistInTheAmbulance 12-31-2005 06:18 AM

G4 - Bohemian Rhapsody.. Needs not be said, but still.

bungalow 12-31-2005 03:24 PM

EDGE is trying to get banned....I think

boo boo 12-31-2005 04:34 PM

Well, not all covers are bad, there are rare cases of cover songs being better than the original...Some of these would include (only my opinion).

Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower
Blue Cheer - Summertime Blues
White Stripes - I Just Dont Know What To Do With Myself
Yes - America
Nirvana - Pretty much every cover they have done

And just about every damn song Elvis did was a cover.

He deserves a good kick in the balls for covering Depeche Modes Personal Jesus.

And even worse for Gasp, AC/DCs Highway to Hell. O_O

btw, who do you guys think does worse AC/DC covers, Six Feet Under or Celine Dion?

sleepy jack 12-31-2005 04:40 PM

Manson added his own twist to personal jesus and thats just him, he made it sound like a Manson song, not just a generic copy cat cover which i think is nice, even if im not big on manson anymore. Same goes with tainted love.

Well, Kashmir pretty much sucks?I think the rap version highly discredits the quality of the original!!!:usehead:
On top of that, I've become more and more sick of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way"..........The song is already overplayed so much and the rapping going along with it gets kinda old after awhile, ya know?On the other hand, Anthrax's "Bring Tha Noise" is a pretty good jam!!!
Happy NewYear!!!

bungalow 12-31-2005 06:30 PM

I liked Manson's cover of Tainted Love

No one did a rap version of Kashmir, Puffy Duddy (or whatever the hell hes called now) just sampled the main riff...Not the same.

Laces Out Dan! 12-31-2005 06:33 PM

He rapped about Godzilla i think :)

The Black Crowes did that Elton John song(?)!!!They should've done something like "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", if anything, ya know?

Laces Out Dan! 12-31-2005 06:41 PM

Lucy in the sky with diamonds is by the Beatles

bungalow 12-31-2005 06:46 PM

Elton John did cover it though.
Not agreeing with him....just stating that Elton did a version

Laces Out Dan! 12-31-2005 06:47 PM

i knew that...but regardless

Well, that might be somewhat of a mistake of mine, but not totally!!!:pssst: I know the Beatles do that song on "sgt. peppers", but Elton John performs it as well!!!Check out Elton John's "Captain Fantastic" album, it'll clear things up for ya, peace!!!;)

Laces Out Dan! 12-31-2005 06:52 PM

i already knew Elton did a cover of it....but it doesnt change the fact that the beatles wrote it

Merkaba 12-31-2005 07:10 PM

I don't think Manson kills other songs. His songs have that twisted dark feel to them and I quite like it.

The only crap cover he has ever done that I've heard is Another Brick In The Wall. He failed me with that. I think he took the completely wrong approach to the way he sung it. Far too soft, his scream is a weapon, he should have used it.

I agree with whoever said that at least Mansons covers aren't your same generic identical copy of the original.

Sgt Pepper came before Captian Fantastic.

mosesandtherubberducky 12-31-2005 08:28 PM

Misfits did a good cover of Blitzkrieg Bop. There was no variation from the original besides the fact that Doyle's guitar is more of a crunch than Johnny's. But besides just the variation you would expect it is pretty good.

End Of the Innocence 12-31-2005 08:39 PM

Evanessence did decently with nirvana's heart-shaped box....you could actually understand most of the words without looking them up.

sleepy jack 12-31-2005 09:42 PM

You couldn't understand nirvanas? and that cover sucked.
