One advantage of being isolated from most pop culture is that "famous" songs aren't ruined. For me, the instrumental coda makes Layla. The first four minutes are good, but they're only a setup for the perfection that follows.

^ Gary Jules sung it perfectly, but the Tears for Fears (original) version completely sucked.
Loneliest Person (the last track on S. F. Sorrow) is pretty sad. What's awesome is it really is just a great vocal performance, no mistakes about it.

Ryan Adams - I Taught Myself How To Grow Old
Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm Pearl Jam - Jeremy Nine Inch Nails - Something I Can Never Have and many already mentioned including Johnny Cash's/Nine Inch Nails - Hurt.... easily the greatest and saddest song ever written for me.
