Bands/artists you like but everyone else hates

im a huge fan of norah jones. alot of my friends dont like her because she is jazz but i really like her music.

All_Nite_Dinah 01-19-2006 09:46 AM

If you like Nora Jones you should listen to Madeline Peyroux she is an awesome jazz singer who reminds me of Billy Holiday and covers a Between the Bars.

With that said I listen to alot of music that my friends dont. Mainly punk. Im also a big fan of Pat benatar, Tiffany, Blondie(I have a blondie backpatch) and other female groups from the 80s. Im getting more into grind on occaasion to which 80% of the population finds totally intolerable.

All_Nite_Dinah 01-19-2006 09:47 AM

O yea and I like alkaline trio(specifically old) and alot of people write them off as sellouts.

Crowe 01-19-2006 01:34 PM

why would people write them off as sell outs? nobody i know does that, and they are my favorite band.

i have a ton of guilty pleasures. simple plan for one. i know, it's disgraceful. i also like green day, a lot, and i have since i was 5 or 6, so i didn't jump on a band wagon. but now it's cool to hate green day. so there that is.

other than my guilty pleasures, i usually like to think of myself as a man with good taste in music.

I'm a huge Rufio fan. About as power pop/bubble gum punk as possible.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 01-19-2006 05:21 PM

hmmm, yeah me too...im not like obsessed with them (the black maria) but i like them, although most of the people i know never heard of them. I guess they have some sort of weird appeal.

John Mayer Trio, from the friends that I've talked to they don't like him or his trio. But I do and I'm damn well proud of it. *removes gay pride shirt and puts on John Mayer Trio shirt*

Muzak Geek 01-19-2006 06:41 PM

I've always been a huge Whiskeytown fan (I like Ryan Adams' solo stuff too, but not as much). Got to see them live a couple of times before they finally broke up for good. Practically all my friends hate when I put on any of their CD's.

Gotta admit that I like some of Mayer's stuff, too. (I especially liked his guest spot on "Chappelle's Show")

Muzak Geek 01-19-2006 06:46 PM

Sorry - just realized this thread was in the Punk Forum… my bad.

I have serious and not so serious tastes and I too think J.P. kicks (or more likely kicked) almighty anus. No pun intended Rob.

pdpeart 01-21-2006 01:34 AM

Just thought of a couple more, Kaiser Chiefs, Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, anything by any member of the Rat Pack(bit of a cliche I guess), Tracy Chapman(sp?), Razorlight, Oasis, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg(Really basic writer), 50 Cent(I know how bad he is, maybe it's the production I like!), and the list goes on and on!

runawaymylilnightmare 01-24-2006 09:29 AM

Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and My Chemical Romance

holdyoualways 01-24-2006 09:52 AM

I like Interpol and the strokes.

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 01-25-2006 01:27 PM

the strokes old stuff was way better, at least in my opinion. im not one for the singers new style. the instrumental element is still good, maybe even a little more interesting. but i liked the old stuff more. so, shiftael, you arent alone in two of those.

shiftael 01-25-2006 02:22 PM

ya woot I jsut see especioally Interpol and The Strokes bashed nearly everywhere, I stipll haven't really gotten a 'feel' for this place yet, sorry..

RE: Daft Punk, I LOVED the 2nd album and it blew me away becasue I totally didn't liek his first but now the new one disappointed me greatly again, just my personal opinion so I both like him and don't like him if that makes sense.. The second one is incredible, though....
And I'm glad I'm not alone, Interpol I sort of lieked right away, then the more I heard them they grew and grew even more, one of the ones that started restoring my faith in modern stuff, actaully.

Shooting Star 01-25-2006 02:27 PM

I started liking Interpol after I got told I looked like the lead singer in the slow hands video, so I had to see if I really did and the song was really a good tune so it went from there.

Wanna hug?

....Green Day, there I amited it. I do enjoy Dookie and Nimrod

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 01-26-2006 05:38 PM

^agreed. their older stuff wasnt as bad as everyone makes it seem, although i have kinda moved on, they arent on my "most listened to" list by far.

I don't mind........Maroon 5. C'mon, its pop music, but it is catchy. I don't listen to it hxc or anything, but it isn't all that bad

PerFeCTioNThrUSileNCe 01-27-2006 03:30 PM

it wouldnt be that bad, but the singer sounds like he had his genitals removed with a jumper cable.

i totally disagree with you there. Judas are well loved all over the world and are and always will be known as for being the great METAL GODS so in saying that of course there well loved. and there's more then a few metal kids that like them, and to love them all you really have to do is have respet for what they opened up the doors to.. more great and powerful metal bands. and really when you look at it liking/ loving Priest doesn't mean bad taste. i mean new priest and how they sound now in there comback isn't as great as what ti was compared to the 80's but i mean you can't say that liking them means bad taste as a hole. if you think it about them now beacause of the sound then say so, but you can't bash them back then to be more in depth about what your saying because that band was THE greatest metal band in the world at one point and are still worshiped for there music even if its not as great as it was.

bands that i get made fun of for liking..

the spill canvas
bonjovi
breaking benjamin
cold
chevelle
alkaline trio
element eighty
hawthorne heights
modest mouse
the monkeys

and yea i think thats it..

alot of people i know also like those bands too.. but yea this town is pretty much into "rap" and thats about it.. and most of the bands i just said there are still unknown here.. only the odd few know about bands such as those around here.. anyways yea..
