Large files, they actually download pretty fast, and a website generally can't be held as liable because the "crime" is being perpeptrated by multiple users of the site sharing their load over multiple computers.

Getting software is a right pain in the ass unless you have a good torrent site.

There's this russian site called rutracker which has a load of great torrents without any ratio bullcrap like what.cd

I would still love a what.cd account though

So I'm just wondering why people bother with torrents?

I'm starting wonder that myself. I was under the impression they were some kind of goldmine but I haven't been able to find much of what I'm looking for.

Where the feck are you looking and what are you looking for? I've had some trouble finding more obscure stuff like certain low-key programs but that's about it.

On the other hand, mediafire works far better for grabbing albums.

Torrents are great for getting movies, games, software, ebooks, pdfs, and music. Many of the file uploading sites have a file size limit and often times throttle your download speed if you're using their free version, most egregiously with RapidShit. I know it's a hard compliant to make with a straight face as you download something for free, but when other, better sites like Mediafire let you download fast and easy without having to wait 90 seconds, it's really hard to wonder why anyone would want to use anything else. While it's true that torrents do have a bit of a learning curve, we're also fortunate enough to live in a day and age where information can easily be accessed by using the very same electric smiles machine you're using to read this post right now. The only real downside to torrents is when nobody seeds the file, or there's only a couple and the download takes a long time, but again, how much can you really complain when you're getting something for free?

As for the best torrent sites, they're usually the ones that have some kind of membership where you can only join up by being sent an invitation code by an established member. Sites like demonoid and what.cd are the ones I've used in the past, although my membership with what.cd is currently disabled because I fell behind on my upload to download ratio.

It was, but I've found that since Megaupload was taken down, Mediafire has done quite a bit to remove itself from that same circle. A few of my other pirate chums have had their accounts deactivated and all their files deleted, which I suppose is better than them leaving it available for some fed douchebag to find. The day Megaupload went down I deleted my account, so I suppose if that was the FBI's long term intent, mission fucking accomplished.

Some recent failures that I can think of (but there have also been a lot of jazz albums I've failed to locate):

Sxip Shirey—Sonic New York
Friedrich Gulda—At Birdland
Red Chamber—Redgrass
Pueblo Cafe (anything)
Nilsson—Duit on Mon Dei, Sandman and ...That's the Way It Is

I've been trying Demonoid, isoHunt and ExtraTorrent.

Makes sense. I haven't really used torrents to download any music (aside from large discographies) in a while, but I do remember encountering the issue of albums like these being hard to find. Torrents essentially work by popular demand. Higher the demand, higher the chance of finding something.

So yeah, best bet would definitely be file hosting sites for these.

When is Kim's trial? The whole fucking world has sort of assumed he's guilty already.

Just failed at finding another one:

Dr. Lonnie Smith—Caravan

Thing is, I had already exhausted that avenue, which I why I decided to look in to torrents. :(

All they did was take down Megaupload and the whole friggin after effect is a lot of these sites shat themselves. I'm having trouble finding easy stuff sometimes.
