YLT played a couple of free shows at my local record store in the last few years. Very, very cool.
I'm trying to either get to a De La Soul show this weekend or Ghostface next week. I've never been to a hiphop show so I think those would both be badass starters. |

Andrew Jackson jihad just announced a new tour there headlining a ****ing awesome lineup. The not coming to my city until March, but seeing how their show was in June I'm sure it'll be spectacular.

White Lung was absolutely nuts. Since they released their latest album they've kind of skyrocketed from small time punk band to Rolling Stone articles in half a year, basically ascending to the peak of the Vancouver punk scene. So I meet up with the crew and we head to the venue in Vancouver, total hipster bar. The two opening bands were pretty mellow indie rock, crowd wasn't really digging it, little to no movement. Curtain goes across the stage, White Lung sets up, they start their set, curtain opens, entire place goes ****ing ape **** eruption in 10 seconds. I've never seen the mood of an audience change that drastically that quickly, entire floor was a pit, crowd surfing and stage diving in a quaint hipster bar. They've developed so much as a band this year, especially with the addition of Hether Fortune of Wax Idols on bass, they're all genuine performers at the top of their game now, and it has been a long time since I've seen a bar band work an audience that well. Amazing show, one of the best I've ever seen, and one of the best albums of the year. All hail White Lung.
The Tea Party tomorrow. Pallbearer on Wednesday. |
Scored decent seats to see Foo Fighters play at Fenway Park in Boston next summer.

Aw man, I wish I had concert money...
I went to a folk fest a while ago, but I rarely get a chance to see some more experimental/weird acts.. |
Went and saw my first show at Vancouver's famous Commodore Ballroom last night, fantastic venue. Massive floor area surrounded by rows of elevated table seating, separate bars at every edge of the room, friendly security, massive food / drink menu, perfectly sized stage very close to the audience, and great acoustics throughout the room. Might be my new favorite venue. The Tea Party was pretty cool, didn't know anything about the band going in and it was a pleasant surprise, frontman Jeff Martin played a bunch of exotic eastern instruments, played a Gibson Les Paul with a bow..., drummer had a sweet rack of bongos and timpanis...
Pallbearer tonight, first sludge show, tiny bar. Stoked. |
