The only American band that I can think of that comes to mind right away that has influenced music extentensively since the late 60s, would have to be 'The Doors' (Jim Morrison).
Ive really noticed an ever bigger influence since the 90s, by Morrison with todays music, when concerning grunge, heavy metal, etc.
And I never really was a big fan of the Doors, I guess that I have aquired respect for their musical influence.
