It kind of is. Its meaning is a lot fuzzier than most though, because it means both a certain style of music and something along the lines of 'independent record-label'. Its IS a genre, but its a very vague genre.

Yes. Whoever the purveyors of genre-naming are, they really ballsed it up when they named Indie. Somebody should have come up with a different name early on and avoided all the ambiguity.

I mean Indie as in the style of music, not the Independent label kind of Indie. If only they had 2 different names so everyone wouldn't get all confused.
