But you like Slayer?... Who are a extremely similar band to Pantera as far as i'm concerned.... Ironically enough i think Pantera are better.

No offense, but sometimes your preferences seem to be a little random, but whatever floats your boat.

It`s not random at all.

I heard Slayer first, I thought Reign In Blood was a good album (although i`m not keen on the others).

Pantera however came a bit later & didn`t impress me nearly as much. In fact i`d say they were primaily the band that started the whole wave of downtuned chuggy metal bands that I loathe.

Nah, Slayer were more influencial to that movement.

I love Slayer myself, just a little boggled.

The difference is Pantera were influenced and tried to sound like Kiss, Slayer were more hardcore punk influenced. I for one enjoyed their punk covers album Undisputed Attitude.

Why not?... They were one of the most progressive bands of their time, not every prog band has to sound like ELP you know.

I thought Pantera was pretty original, but some of the singing on the earlier stuff (by which I mean CFH and VDOP) is somewhat Kiss-ish.

The common story is that Pantera ripped off Exhorder's style of groove based thrash metal so it's hard to say whether they were that creative. But I still prefer Pantera, although Exhorder is some great thrash.
