The Official Best Guitarist Thread (bass, metal, rock, jimi hendrix)

Best is different from favourite, and I'm going to pick me favourties (who obviously are *arguably* some of the greatest guitarists anyway. No particular order...

Hendrix - Ooozed Technical ability.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Fantastic Blues guitarist, so easy to listen to.
Tom Morello - One of the most unique guitarists I have ever heard, great solos, even better riffs/fx
Gilmour - An underrated guitarist IMO, fantastic work on DS/Animals/Wish You Were albums.
Page - Out and out monster.
Slash - Slightly OOT but listening to App 4 Des and Contraband, he's awesome

i cannot believe NOBODY HAS MENTIONED
FRANK ZAPPA

compared to most of the other guitarist mentioned except srv, hendrix etc., Zappa is much more technically proficient and way more interesting

and nobody has mentioned any jazz or classical guitarists, and basically, no rock guitarist can stand up to the likes of Pat Metheny, Wes Montgomery, Jim Hall, John Scofield, Slava Grigorian etc....

I'm not really into that type of music so I cant say anything about that. I just get bored unless they have interesting lyrics; music isnt enough for me. I guess it would be pretty boring the other way around too.

There are thousands of guitarists around the world with more technical ability than Hendrix.

No where near as much Creativity or Originality, certainly not as much influence...Hendrix did have quite a lot of skill when considering the times, back in those days few were as impressive, but nowedays with the likes of Michael Angelo Batio and Rusty Cooley, Hendrix's technical skill is long outdated...Skill wasnt his strong point anyway.

ever think outside the box a bit? why the hendrix/clapton/page/beck constant droning on and on?

what of: les paul, chet atkins, al demiola, leo kottke? there's more to the instrument than there is examples of greatness....however you define it.
