steve vai, john petrucci, joe satrianni, eric johnson, and yngwie malmsteen... i've been playing guitar as long as i can remember, and those are you most amazing guitarists i have EVER heard, they put hendrix, and srv to shame, even though some of them were close friends to srv... check them all out,

but have you heard these guys?,.,. sure hendrix could work his way around the penatonic scale, but these guys can take every note on the neck and make it scream, they make their guitars do the singing.,. i love hendrix as an innovator and musician, but as a guitarist there's much better out there,

That doesn't make one a great soloist.

A great soloist can also make his guitar whisper, cry, laugh, moan, etc.

Scales make a good solo?...When?

Almost every David Gilmour solo is in the minor pentatonic, but i would take his beautful soloing over Michael Angelo Batios painful wankathons anyday...Wouldnt you?
