I've always thought Blind Melon were underrated. Besides "No Rain" they haven't gotten enough credit for how good their music really is.

Definitely one of the most underrated bands ever. An amazing group of musicians, and the fact that No Rain is the 15 minutes of fame that most people associate them with does their music no justice whatsoever.

Shannon Hoon is from the town I went to college in. We held a memorial every year for him. Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Do the memorials still happen, or have things sorta died down on that front?

I've heard only the best of things about Porcupine Tree, yet name them to anyone on the street, and they'll most likely give you a puzzled look... wonder why... you are definitely right though, they're criminally underrated.

@ james -- i like the dismemberment plan! but you're right, i'm not often overwhelmed by their dedicated fans.
also - idk what has been said already but The Mountain Goats are underrated and for the amount of amazing music John Darnielle has made that's just insane.
Also, I think that The Replacements are underrated. Paul Westerberg is just so talented.

They definitely still happen!

Blind Melon are the kind of band that inspire either obsession or just not caring at all. It is nice to have a bit of music history in an otherwise boring ass hick town.

Isn't Axl Rose also from the same town?
